The Truck Driver - Special Winch will drive a heavy truck and operate specialized motorized equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES • Inspect mechanical condition of vehicles and report malfunctions • Maintain equipment records • Work collaboratively as a crew team member • Adhere to safety policies and procedures • Assist with directing work crews and traffic at work sites as needed • Tow specialized equipment as needed • Perform activities and functions of related lower-level personnel and other related tasks • Other duties as assigned • Transport crews, and/or materials; load and unload equipment and materials as requested or required • Operate heavy trucks, such as a Tractor Trailer, Flusher, Vactor, Jetter, Winch, Boom, Bucket Truck, and a Crane Truck • Perform preventative maintenance, such as oil, water, gas, and tire checks; make repairs, and adjustments; may schedule periodic maintenance on specialized vehicles KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Some knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair • Some knowledge of city street and geography • Ability to drive in heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions • Ability to follow oral and written instructions • Considerable knowledge and skill in the operation of heavy trucks and related specialized motorized equipment • Considerable knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations governing vehicle operation, as well as the safety hazards and precautions of the work • Ability to perform minor maintenance, adjustments, and repairs to assigned vehicles and equipment • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, and the general public EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS The following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted. • Must maintain a valid Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with tank (N) endorsement or (X) combination hazardous materials endorsement throughout employment • Must be trained and certified through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO); or required to obtain certification within 1 year of employment GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Applicant must present a current, valid Class C (Class 1) Motor Vehicle Operator's License at the time of application or prior to appointment. A valid driver's license must be maintained throughout employment. Applicant must have permanent residency in Allegheny County at time of appointment and remain a permanent resident throughout employment with the PWSA. SUPERVISION EXERCISED / RECEIVED No direct reports / Receives direct guidance from the Manager, Field Operations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform physical work outdoors in extreme weather; operate a pickup truck, van and forklift, and related equipment. The employee will work in confined, high spaces, like scaffolding; exhibit full range of motion to complete tasks like climbing, balancing, kneeling, or grasping, with the ability to utilize their senses, such as seeing, hearing, and talking. The employee will perform heavy work including lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, and work in loud conditions with vibrations, traffic, mechanical, chemical, fire and explosive risks. CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a loud or moderate noise level in the work environment. Availability to work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond normal hours and/or recalled during emergency situations or other extensive periods.
