As part of the Information Technology Department, the Technical Support Specialist serves as the first point of contact to facilitate timely and suitable resolution to information technology issues. This position works onsite and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work. The preferred hiring range for this position is between $25.06 - $29.55 ($52,124.80 - $61,464.00 Annually) Star ting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Provides assistance to personal computer users who make requests via telephone or email; Resolves first and second tier IT service issues and route complex service requests to the Systems and/or the Network Engineer; Installs and configures personal computers, software and peripheral equipment utilizing enterprise deployment/management tools such as SCCM; Performs maintenance and repairs on personal computers and serves as the point of contact for devices repaired by outside vendors; Provides information, explanations and instruction to resolve issues and to orient users with new hardware, software and security policies; Maintains accurate records for all services calls; Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental, and workgroup goals and objectives; Remains knowledgeable about emerging desktop and mobile technologies; Performs other duties as assigned; Reports to the Sr. Technical Support Specialist. Education, Experience and Skills Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or technical school with an Associate's degree in a computer technology related subject area. Must have at least one (1) year experience working in a computer help desk or similar environment. In depth knowledge of personal computers and demonstrable expertise in the most current versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office is required. A valid driver's license is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience and working knowledge in following IT support areas are highly preferred: - Mass desktop deployment/management experience utilizing enterprise tools such as SCCM; - Computer virus/malware prevention and remediation - Mobile Device (iOS and Android) support experience - Foundational knowledge in computer networking and telecom technologies Skills : Basic project management skills and ability to accurately interpret requirements, analyze data, reason logically, exercise sound judgment, and develop effective solutions to problems are required. Relate well with people and have excellent communications skills to provide assistance in a competent and friendly manner. Physical Conditions & Additional Information Physical requirements for this position as outlined by the Department of Labor: LIGHT WORK: Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. This position is subject to stand-by/on-call on a rotating weekly basis and may be required to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays. There are certain provisions that must be met and the portability request must be executed within 18 months of vesting in the City's Plan. Pension: Choose from two options: A Defined Benefit Pension plan pays a monthly benefit in retirement using a defined formula based on the employee's earnings history, tenure of service, and age. Our plan has a 5 year vesting period and an employee contribution of 5% of salary. A Defined Contribution 401a plan in which fixed contributions are paid into an individual's account by the employer, the contributions are invested, returns (positive or negative) are credited to the account, and the account balance is used to provide retirement benefits. The vesting schedule for our 401a plan is 33% after one year of service, 67% after two years of service, and 100% after three years of service. There is no required contribution from salary.
