Position Information: The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Office Assistant 2 to work in the Division of Food Safety and Inspection in Albany. The Office Assistant 2 will be responsible for a wide range of office support and clerical activities. Specifically, the position will be responsible for filing end-of-day application folders; corresponding with food industry firms regarding application information and requested fees; reviewing license registrations and license-pending files, issuing licenses as appropriate, and mailing license renewal packet to firms; arranging and compiling master applications for animal food; filing returned transmittal forms by batch number; and entering incoming applications into electronic filing systems. The ideal candidate will be self-driven and highly organized. This is a great opportunity to support programs that ensure that New York State's food supply is safe to consume. The Office Assistant 2 is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday and is conveniently located at 10B Airline Drive in Albany. This location provides ample, free parking and a professional work environment. Salary: The Office Assistant 2 position is in the CSEA Salary Grade (SG) 9. The starting salary of the CSEA SG-9 is $41,399/year. The candidate appointed to the Office Assistant 2, CSEA SG-9, will be eligible to participate in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program. Through this program, employees receive yearly performance evaluations. Performance advances are payable to CSEA employees whose base annual salary is below the job rate for their current position and who were rated "Satisfactory" or its equivalent on their yearly performance evaluation. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary. Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-9 job rate salary of $ 50,884/ year! For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
