The Town of Essex, Vermont is seeking a Senior Van Driver to operate our 12 passenger Senior Vans. The Senior Van Driver executes a scheduled route of pickups and drop-offs transporting residents age 60+ to and from appointments and activities. The van driver will also assist passengers entering and exiting the van, homes and other buildings as needed. This position works under the direction of the Essex Parks and Recreation Director with general guidance from the Program Director - Senior Services. The van driver position is governed by the Town of Essex Personnel Regulations and works in accordance with all town policies. The senior van program operates three to four days a week, typically Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The typical work day for this role is 4-5 hours long, with the actual hours varying day by day depending on the ridership schedule on a given day. It is anticipated that this position will work around 10 hours per week, hours will however fluctuate week to week depending on availability of other drivers and ridership numbers. This position requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent, experience transporting and/or driving large vans/trucks/buses, valid driver's license with clean driving record, the ability to pass a VT Criminal Background check and a pre-employment drug screening. The chosen candidate will also enter the Town's quarterly random drug testing pool. A commercial driver's license is not required. This position is a non-union position with a starting salary of $18-$20/hour, depending on relevant experience.
