Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA), located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is the research division of Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). To support the research and development of next generation fuel cell and water electrolysis technologies, we are currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a full-time position as a Polymer Scientist. This position is currently in one year renewal basis with anticipation of 3+ years of research opportunity.ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for synthesis and characterization of hydrocarbon ionomer and membrane for electrochemical applications. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following: Design and synthesize hydrocarbon polymer materials for membrane or electrode ionomer applications.Develop methods for the modification and functionalization of the membrane and ionomers to enhance their properties. Conduct experiments to evaluate polymer materials performance, using analytical tools, such as GPC, NMR, Titration, etc.Work within an interdisciplinary team to develop novel hydrocarbon polymers for fuel cell or water electrolysis applications, and provide ideas and guidance to colleagues on materials design, integration, and characterization. Prepare and evaluate technical plans, reports, presentations, and proposals to support project success.QualificationsPh.D. or equivalent in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, or related field focused on polymer chemistryPractical and theoretical knowledge in design and synthesis of monomer and polymer, polymer modification and characterization requiredKnowledge and experience in ion-exchange polymer preferredKnowledge and experience in PEM fuel cell and water electrolyzer preferredDemonstrated ability to work efficiently in a multidisciplinary teamPay and benefits:Toyota offer a competitive salary and a wide range of benefits.
