POSITION-School Social Worker-Elementary SchoolWHO WE ARECentral Queens Academy Charter Schools (CQA) was founded to serve the families in District 24 in Queens, specifically those who live in and around the multiethnic, multicultural, and multilingual communities of Elmhurst, Corona and Woodside. Our scholars and their families hail from over 30 different nations and speak over 20 different languages at home. More than 80% of our scholars would be the first in their families to attend and complete college.CQA operates CQA I and CQA II. CQA I consists of an established middle school (opened 2012) and a growing elementary school (opened 2021). These schools will become a fully enrolled K-8 by 2024. Since our founding, CQA I middle school has become the highest performing charter middle school in Queens and one of the highest performing schools in all of New York State.Citing our school's history of successful outcomes, CQA was recently approved for a second charter to replicate and open CQA II. We will open CQA II in August 2024 beginning with Kindergarten and first grade and grow by one grade per year thereafter. This new elementary school will serve 500 total scholars across grades K-4 by 2027OUR MISSIONThe mission of Central Queens Academy Charter School is to prepare students for success in education, the workforce and the community through a school that integrates literacy, standards-based academics and culturally responsive supportive services.WHAT WE ASK OF OUR SOCIAL WORKERSService of Scholars- Provide crisis intervention, develop intervention strategies, help guide child development, build self-care techniques and strategies.Service of Families - Work with families to facilitate support of their child's specific needs, alleviate family stress, assist families to access local programming, assist families in accessing resources.Service of Staff - Develop and implement staff professional learning around scholar needs and socialemotional health of children, observe students in classes for mental health concerns, assist teachers with behavior management.Related Services - Participate in special education assessment meetings, prepare social or developmental history reports, and counseling.RESPONSIBILITIES Provide individual andor group counseling Assess and record student development, identify strengths and areas of improvement.Follow school-wide practices for classroom management and individual education municate with school leadership frequently and all other staff members who engage with municate with parents as per school guidelines on a regular basis, including presenting student progress reports and informing parents of requisite student discipline.Actively participate in professional development and school meetings on organization and guidelines.Exhibit a high level of organization, a knack for systems of data collection and analysis, and preparedness for individualized counseling.QUALIFICATIONSNYS School Social Worker Certification requiredAt least four years of child and family counseling in an urban setting highly preferredSpanish speaking highly preferredCOMPENSATIONCompetitive salary, commensurate with experience ($75,000-$85,000)Retirement plan participationComprehensive medical benefits and thoughtful maternity and paternity leave
