Underwriter AssistantLocation: Chicago, IL (Hybrid Schedule)Department: Underwriting - Property & Casualty (P&C)Reports to: Senior UnderwriterPosition Overview:We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Underwriter Assistant with a strong background in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance to join our underwriting team in Chicago. This role offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for a combination of remote and in-office work. The Underwriter Assistant will provide essential support to underwriters, managing various administrative and technical tasks that contribute to the efficient handling of insurance policies and risk assessment.The ideal candidate will have more than three years of experience in the P&C insurance industry and a strong understanding of underwriting processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to advance their career within a dynamic and growing insurance team.Key Responsibilities:Underwriting Support:Assist underwriters in reviewing and processing new business submissions, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations for commercial and personal lines of P&C insurance.Gather and analyze relevant risk information from clients, brokers, and other sources to aid in underwriting decisions.Prepare underwriting worksheets, rate calculations, and draft policy quotes in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.Document Preparation & Policy Administration:Compile, review, and organize insurance documentation, including applications, loss runs, inspection reports, and other supporting materials.Ensure the accurate and timely issuance of binders, policies, and endorsements.Maintain detailed and organized records in the company's underwriting management system, ensuring that all documentation is compliant with internal procedures and regulatory standards.Risk Analysis & Data Management:Conduct initial risk assessments by reviewing coverage applications and determining if additional documentation or clarification is required.Assist with the preparation of risk reports, exposure summaries, and other data-driven analyses to support underwriting decisions.Work with internal teams, such as claims, loss control, and accounting, to resolve any issues related to underwriting and policy servicing.Client & Broker Liaison:Act as a point of contact for brokers and clients, handling routine inquiries about policy coverage, status updates, and documentation requests.Ensure clear and timely communication between underwriters and external stakeholders, facilitating the smooth handling of all transactions.Assist in resolving underwriting-related issues and following up on outstanding items to maintain efficient service pliance & Regulatory Responsibilities:Ensure that all underwriting activities comply with company policies, state and federal insurance regulations, and industry best practices.Stay updated on changes in insurance regulations and underwriting practices to ensure compliance.Qualifications:Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry, with a focus on underwriting or policy administration.Familiarity with commercial and personal lines insurance products, risk assessment, and policy processing.Technical Skills:Proficiency in insurance management systems (e.g., AMS360, Applied Epic, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Strong understanding of underwriting procedures, rating tools, and regulatory compliance.Soft Skills:Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.Strong verbal and written communication abilities.Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with underwriting and other departments.Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Benefits:Competitive salary based on experienceComprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance401(k) retirement plan with employer matchPaid time off and holidaysHybrid work schedule with flexibility for remote workProfessional development opportunities
