Work as a an R&D Technician for a manufacturer in Somerset County: Provides support for the Product Development department through: 1) Accurately maintaining laboratory records according to the specified methods and R&D Standard Operating Procedures, 2) Ensuring proper equipment operation, 3) Working at the direction of the Chemists to prepare and evaluate prototype samples, 4) cleaning and maintenance of work area, and other related duties as required. * Product Development - Prepares finished formula batches or batch intermediate sub-phases with direction from the Laboratory Manager or Senior Principal Scientist. This position is specifically intended to increase the total output of the R&D laboratory. o Accurately follows procedures. o Weighs the ingredients used in the batch precisely. o Executes prepared experimental designs. o Records observations and assessments accurately. o Informs supervisor of results. * Product Evaluation o Tracks preliminary and full stability and investigates all newly developed products in accordance with the Quality Control Laboratory and all SOP"s. o Evaluates the physical properties of products via instrumental (in vitro) and in vivo techniques as specified in the relevant R&D Methods and Procedures. Job Requirements * Maintenance o Ensures the cleanliness and proper working order of the equipment used to conduct laboratory analyses. o Ensures that all equipment and accessories used in the batching process are clean and ready for use at the end of each workday. o Maintains a clean and orderly lab space, ensuring that all materials are stored properly in their proper areas. * Record Keeping - accurately records all product evaluations and measurements in a laboratory notebook in accordance with the approved procedures of LEI Laboratories and compiles required documents for Formula Release. * Manufacturing Assistant o Assists the Director or Manager of Manufacturing in the preparation of large-scale batches including proper completion of paperwork following LEI SOP"s and assisting in the actual batch preparation. * Key Skills and Level of Competency: * Problem Solving: * Observe, evaluate, and interpret Stability Test results. * Production/product deviation: Learn problem-solving and decision-making techniques. * Evaluate product/packaging interactions to determine the effect of package on product integrity. * Prepare documents for formula testing (external and internal) and formula release. * Time Management: * How to balance and prioritize project demands with time availability. * How to work on multiple projects simultaneously. * Thinking Environment: R&D operates in an open-thinking environment, encouraging creativity and teamwork in all aspects of the job responsibility. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the decision-making with his/her team. Problem-solving assistance (when needed) is provided by the supervisor and/or other members of the R&D staff. The successful candidate will have excellent multi-tasking capabilities, communication skills and must be intellectually flexible. * Accountability: o Has direct impact on formula integrity, product performance, and shelf life. o Has indirect impact on achieving financial goals of the company by ensuring high quality products with the appropriate documentation. o Position has the same general level of accountability as an Associate Chemist position on the Professional Ladder Education and Experience: * High School - Minimum 3 - 5 years of relevant laboratory experience
