Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C. (PAGNY), a multispecialty medical practice group, staffs several municipal hospitals and clinics within New York City through an affiliation agreement with NYC Health + Hospitals. PAGNY's corporate staff provides administrative, practice management and human resources services in support of its more than 3000 clinical providers.The Assistant General Counsel, as part of PAGNY's Office of the General Counsel, is responsible for analyzing, managing, and advising on labor and employment matters for the organization and ensuring compliance with PAGNY's obligations under various collective bargaining agreements and the affiliation agreement with the NYC Health + Hospitals.Responsibilities:Manage legal affairs related to labor and employment issues including litigation, arbitration, and ensuring compliance with all applicable contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements.Provide advice and counsel regarding applicable collective bargaining agreements and engage union representatives to negotiate and address matters related to the CBAs.Represent the organization in state and federal court, before administrative tribunals and governmental bodies, in labor negotiations and in healthcare forums.Drafts documents related to the collective bargaining agreements, memoranda of understanding, position statements, and various corporate related documents. Supervisemonitor the activities of outside counsel.Develop and present in-house training programs in conjunction with the labor relations team. Provides leadership, guidance, and support to promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations and to mitigate risk and liability.Qualifications:Law Degree from an accredited law schoolLicensed and registered to practice law in New York State6 or more years of relevant experience as a practicing labor and employment lawyer requiredLabor and Employment litigationarbitration experience and negotiation skills requiredPrevious healthcare experience requiredExperience working for unionized organizations required; healthcare experience strongly preferred.Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skillsMust be able to operate independently to address a variety of legal issues, and possess excellent analytical and advising skillsCandidates must have the ability to identify and summarize key issues, as well as risk-mitigation optionsIdeal candidate will be a quick study; able to think strategically while also being detail- oriented; work well under pressure and able to juggle multiple priorities; have excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills; a strong academic background; excellent analytical and advising skills; and demonstrated judgment and discretion. Looking for someone to take a hands-on role within a small but dynamic legal department.Annual salary for this position is $185,000 - $190,000. The salary range andor hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
