Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The primary purpose of the Chancellor's Office is to support the Chancellor's leadership of UNC Greensboro (UNCG). UNCG has been providing access and excellence since its founding in 1891 as a women's college (and as one of the three original institutions of the University of North Carolina System) and now as a public, coeducational, doctoral-granting, residential university, serving a vast array of students. The Chancellor serves as the University's Chief Executive Officer, with more than 18,000 students, including more than 3,600 graduate students, and over 2,500 faculty and staff. He is the spokesperson providing leadership at local, state, national and international levels. Position Summary UNCG has many stakeholders, including local, state, and federal government agencies whose actions have significant implications for the University; and other community entities who can be strategic partners in accomplishing mutual goals. Working with the executive team, the Director of External Affairs (Director) will play an integral role in ensuring the ability of the University to accomplish its vision, mission, and strategic goals by developing strategy related to and building relationships with key external partners. Specifically, the Director will provide leadership for strategy and relationships with local, state, federal government agencies, local community leaders, and corporate and military partners. The Director will collaborate with key campus constituencies on the university's top strategic priorities. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. A minimum of five years of experience representing organizations with government and/or community groups or experience working in state or local government. The successful candidate must have strong organizational, planning, analytical, and problem solving abilities; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to facilitate conversation among groups with disparate perspectives and balance these perspectives; and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive situation with diplomacy. The candidate must have the ability to represent the University and its priorities; and work effectively and collaboratively with variety of individuals and offices within both University and the community. A history of carrying initiatives to their successful conclusion. Demonstrated success with working in a highly collaborative environment as a productive member of a team. Demonstrated ability to analyze facts, employ strategic, decisive thinking, and manage risk in emergent situations. Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications A Master's degree is preferred. Other preferred qualifications and experience include: Knowledge of the current climate surrounding higher education; a passion for public education and representing higher education to a broad range of stakeholders.
