A Brief Overview Interprets eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions written by ophthalmologist or optometrist and assist patients in obtaining appropriate eye wear. Measures and fits contact lenses and eyeglass frames based on prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists. Assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Essential Functions Obtaining patient prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists Taking customer information and measurements of the ocular area Recommending frames or contact lenses that suit the customer's style, face, and specifications Adjusting and fitting frames according to the prescriptions and customer's specifications, as well as to suit the customer's face Preparing work orders for the Lab Technicians to use to manufacture the lenses Using specialized equipment, such as calipers, lensometers, and lens gauges Repairing broken frames Performing administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance Educating customers on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses Performing administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance Keeping inventory on frames and contact lenses to ensure product variety and customer satisfaction Make buying decisions for optical (budget management) / meet with sales reps Training staff and maintain workflow processes Establishes strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information / provide finance with daily and specific monthly and yearly reports and data Maintains quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards, analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems, and recommending system improvements Train, fit and order routine and specialty contact lenses Read and apply prism / apply bangerter filters / customize and fit moisture chambers, specialized head adaptors and ptosis crutches and/or other modifications needed to better fit patient Take/post payments and provide proper documentation Maintain fluency with Optical software and manage table coding and pricing Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job. Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section Education Qualifications Associate's Degree from an accredited optician school required equivalent work experience may substitute for education. Required Experience Qualifications Minimum 3 years' experience as an optician Required Licenses and Certifications Current and valid certification as an optician from the American Board of Opticianry Preferred Children's is the very best for kids and the very best for your career!
