Job Description #LI-DNI The Middle Market Commercial Lines Master Field Underwriter (NS/SC Territory) represents the company among a defined territory of agencies, manages and services a profitable renewal book of Commercial Lines business utilizing the highest level of technical underwriting ability. The role conducts territory planning, performance analysis and agency management to maximize production, profit and retention. The role leads the analysis of new business opportunities from exposure, pricing, service, and sales perspective, drives collaboration meeting process while working with independent agents and coaches less experienced field underwriters and mentor's agencies. Responsibilities Underwrites and manages commercial lines book of business for assigned territory. Represents the company, builds strong relationships, and manages the book of business to attain profit and revenue objectives. Acts as the key contact for specified agencies, leads agency business planning and account inventory management. Builds an account inventory of new business, well in advance of the expiration date to achieve profit and revenue objectives. Coordinates monthly renewal strategy discussions with underwriting and services team for individual renewals. Discusses new accounts in the pipeline on a consistent basis, reviews opportunity and best approach for account and establishes an underwriting relationship with policyholders. Underwrites and collaborates on new and renewal Commercial Lines accounts, pre-qualifies customers and leads the account team to analyze new business opportunities. Coordinates collaboration meetings on large, more complex accounts in accordance with company guidelines. Evaluates exposures to loss, determines pricing, and accepts or rejects accounts based on the company's underwriting guidelines. Makes risk acceptability and pricing decisions throughout the policy life cycle. Documents underwriting decisions, maintains supporting information and data in accordance with audit standards. Completes the Account Summary document, recording details about the account, completes and shares a post-mortem on accounts that are not acquired to improve sales acumen and competitive intelligence. Reviews, approves, or declines underwriting authority referrals from junior field Underwriters or Managers, engages in the state planning process including rate review process, state plans and annual projections. Serves as the Account Steward ensuring that we all commitments on the account are lived up to and drives standard scheduled periodic communication with the policyholders. Establishes and maintains effective communication regarding underwriting procedures and practices, growth and profit goals, state and territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends, and agency relations. Reviews quality assurance audits, participates in underwriting procedures and practices projects, submits recommendations to improve department results, including coverage, pricing, or competitive issues. Travels as often as needed including regular utilization of assigned fleet vehicle in order to cover assigned territory. This may involve traveling on short notice or other daily driving duties as assigned. Qualifications 8+ years of P&C Commercial Underwriting experience. Bachelor's degree in Business or related discipline and/or commensurate work experience. Valid driver's license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
