THE POSITION Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in their search for Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainees to assist the Beaver County Maintenance Organization! DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will engage in a thorough and organized training program guided by managers and staff to develop expertise in the analysis, maintenance, and repair of construction equipment, trucks, and vehicles powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Your role will involve supporting the repair and maintenance of vehicles and heavy machinery, including servicing equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. You will also be responsible for identifying required repairs, replacing parts like shock absorbers and transmissions, and conducting tasks such as wheel balancing, minor body repairs, and testing or replacing electrical systems. A key aspect of your duties will include participating in preventative maintenance, assisting with automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and repairs of various engine components and cooling systems. Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years as a Tradesman Helper (commonwealth title) working in the automotive field; or Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Conditions of Employment: This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment. This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. All positions will require employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period. This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. Additional Requirement: You must be able to perform essential job functions.
