The Specialized Recruiting Group is hiring a Director of Purchasing for a construction firm client of ours that builds single family rental properties in Charlotte, NC. Check out the job details below: Position Summary The purchasing director reports to the Regional Vice President of Construction or the Division Vice President of Construction and is responsible for maintaining and monitoring costs by effectively negotiating contracts, reviewing contract pricing and recommending vendors for multiple divisions. Manages the Purchasing Agent / Manager in all departmental matters. Essential Functions/Responsibilities Plan and execute project specific or annual bidding process with auditing compliance, per cost code. Develop subdivision bid comparison spreadsheets, and bid books; per project. Confirm accuracy on Turnkey bids by performing unit pricing takeoffs and comparisons, per responsible cost types. Develop material estimates and budgets. Invoicing - Responsible for escalated invoices and cost management by Project relating to customer options and budget changes. Maintain system as it relates to the bidding process and standardize contracts. Assemble and maintain standardize bid documents and scopes of work. Maintain Commodity database and price comparisons. Facilitate Quarterly SFR Purchasing Meetings. Assist in developing initial house plans per project. Lead Purchasing Agents/Managers in developing the SFR Training Program for Purchasing. Assist the RVP / VP in specification and standardization practices for the SFR Platform for Purchasing. Assist the RVP / VP and National Director of Purchasing to implement new National Contract Programs. Assist with Software troubleshooting. All other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, civil engineering or related business study preferred with five years' experience in the purchasing and estimating of single-family residential projects. Skills/Specialized Knowledge Knowledge of construction practices and procedures, scheduling and safety standards and programs. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, take off and estimating software and scheduling programs. Must have strong Excel skills Strong organization, time-management, personnel management/oversight skills Ability to communicate well in English both written and verbally. License Requirements Valid State Issued Driver License Other Requirements Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected Mental Functions Ability to multi-task Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to address and work on unanticipated challenges or changes in the work in progress Work Environment Varies and includes working in an office setting and on an active construction site within a temporary construction office or trailer
