POSITION PURPOSE The Electromechanical Engineer combines knowledge of electrical engineering and mechanical engineering to design, develop, test, and oversee the electromechanical systems. These systems often include robotics, automated machinery, sensors, and control systems used in various industries, such as manufacturing. This role suits individuals with a strong interest in both electrical and mechanical systems, who enjoy problem-solving and working on cutting-edge technologies. Experience with controls and implementing automated systems that control the operation of machinery and processes in manufacturing industries is highly desirable for this position. Their job involves both hardware and software aspects of controls, ensuring that systems run efficiently, safely, and meet performance standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Design & Development : Design and/or oversee electromechanical systems or components, such as motors, sensors, actuators, and robotic systems. Develop prototypes and test models for functionality and performance. Use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for system design and simulation. Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and automation systems using CAD or other design tools. Program and configure PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems. Testing & Analysis : Conduct tests to ensure systems meet safety and efficiency standards. Troubleshoot and optimize electromechanical components or systems. Analyze test data and make adjustments to improve design. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with control systems, PLCs, and automated machinery. Optimize existing systems for efficiency, reliability, and safety. Provide support during installation and integration of control systems on-site. Collaboration: Provide technical support to improve uptime and solve production-related downtime issues. Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to integrate control systems with existing processes. Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers to source hardware and software components. Project Management : Coordinate with other engineers and departments on projects. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Create and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, user manuals, and maintenance instructions. Innovation & Continuous Improvement : Research and implement new technologies to enhance process designs. Improve the performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness of existing systems. Stay updated with the latest advancements in automation technology. Recommend and implement upgrades to improve system performance and efficiency. Compliance & Safety : Ensure systems comply with industry standards and regulations. Implement safety protocols and procedures in design and testing phases. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS System Efficiency Project Delivery Troubleshooting & Issue resolution Continuous Improvement & Innovation QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles, CAD software, and control systems. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication for coordinating with teams and documenting work. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS (Distributed Control Systems), HMI, and robotics. Programming: Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, or other control system-specific languages. Electrical Engineering: Knowledge of electrical systems, control panel design, and power distribution. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: At least 5 years' experience in the relevant field and industry. SKILLS/ABILITIES: CAD and CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) Testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters) Familiarity with industrial protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus). Experience with robotics, motion control, automation, or machine vision systems. WORKING CONDITIONS No hazardous work conditions. Position in office environment in a manufacturing plant. Field work is required for installation, testing, or troubleshooting equipment and control systems.
