Machine Maintenance Technician A Machine Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment within a manufacturing or industrial setting. They play a crucial role in minimizing downtime, optimizing machine performance, and ensuring the smooth operation of production processes. Machine Maintenance Technicians perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and conduct repairs to keep machines running efficiently. Responsibilities Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance. Conduct regular lubrication, cleaning, and calibration of machines according to maintenance schedules. Identify and replace worn or faulty components, such as belts, bearings, filters, or sensors, before they cause operational issues. Keep maintenance logs and records of maintenance activities, including schedules, inspections, repairs, and parts replaced. Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, electrical or mechanical failures, or control system issues. Use diagnostic tools, test equipment, and manuals to identify the root cause of problems and implement appropriate solutions. Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems to restore machine functionality. Perform adjustments, alignments, or calibrations to ensure machines operate within specified tolerances. Assist in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new machinery or equipment. Collaborate with engineers or equipment manufacturers to implement upgrades, modifications, or retrofits to improve machine performance, efficiency, or safety. Follow electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic schematics and specifications to make necessary modifications. Adhere to safety protocols and follow lockout/tagout procedures when working on machines. Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies necessary for machine maintenance and repairs. Order or procure required parts and supplies in a timely manner to minimize downtime. Keep track of inventory levels, update stock records, and coordinate with purchasing or warehouse departments as needed. Document repairs, maintenance activities, and work performed accurately and thoroughly. Provide detailed reports on machine performance, maintenance activities, and recommendations for improvements. Qualifications and Skills High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is preferred. Previous experience in machine maintenance or a related field. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics. Proficiency in using hand and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks. Analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and troubleshoot machine issues. Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and diagnostic equipment. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, or working in confined spaces. Flexibility to work different shifts or extended hours as needed.
