Summary Reporting to the Senior Director of Principal and Major Gifts (SDPMG), the Director of Major Gifts and Campaign (DMGC) is a key member of the executive fundraising team charged with raising $8-$10 million in principal and major gifts. The DMGC will work closely with the Vice President of Development (VP), the SDPMG, trustees, and high-level volunteers and will play a vital role in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors for the Spaulding Rehabilitation network. To that end, the DMGC will develop strategies and solicitation plans for defined prospects who are able to make outright and/or planned gifts primarily at the six- and seven-figure levels. As the institution continues to work towards its next fundraising campaign, this role will provide critical campaign leadership and collaboration in partnership with the VP and SDPMG. Following the successful conclusion of the Campaign for Spaulding Research Institute in 2022, which raised more than $94 million, the Development team is ramping up its activities to further bolster the network's research and clinical missions through endowment and other philanthropic gifts, all to sustain Spaulding's excellence for generations to come. Key Responsibilities: Major Gifts Strategy and Portfolio Work: Carry a defined portfolio of prospects capable of making a major gift ($20,000+) commitment to Spaulding, with a special focus on prospects capable of gifts of six, seven, and eight figures. With an established portfolio and seasoned donor/prospect relationships, meet an annual fundraising goal between $1 to $2 million or more. Develop strategies and plans for prospects within an effective "moves management" structure, forming relationships with key prospects and donors to reach our goal of raising significant dollars and resources for Spaulding. Meet defined donor and prospect interaction metrics that will be determined in conjunction with the SDPMG. Such metrics include, but are not limited to, number of prospect visits and number of gift solicitations. Work closely to develop donor and prospect fundraising strategies in collaboration with the SDPMG along with Spaulding leadership, members of the Board of Trustees, physicians, and other key partners. Serve as Development staff liaison to one or more clinical sites for purposes of grateful patient strategy and coordination. Following leads generated through Spaulding's strategic grateful patient fundraising program, develop relationships with hospital leadership and key clinicians to identify and cultivate grateful patients (both outpatient and inpatient, as assigned) who are interested in and capable of making a major and/or planned gift. Share supervision of Coordinator with the Senior Director of Development Operations. Contribute to the planning of major gifts program, Spaulding's development program, and our upcoming fundraising campaign in the short- and long-term. Ensure that all donor interactions, forecasts, and strategies are recorded in the Atlas (CRM) database as outlined by the Development Systems team. Campaign Management: Manage and coordinate overall campaign activities and assist in the planning and execution of campaign programs to ensure that the campaign remains on track. Assist in overall orientation and support of campaign leadership as well as coordinating and participating in campaign committee meetings. Help lead feasibility study planning and execution with outside consultant. Assist in identification of leadership candidates and top prospects and provide strategies for engagement. In collaboration with the Systems team, provide regular reports and analysis of campaign progress. Monitor the campaign plan and timeline, and track progress against goals. Support the VP and the Major Gift team as well as Spaulding's Senior Leadership team, clinicians/researchers, and volunteers in their campaign activities, as needed and as appropriate. Education Required: Bachelor's degree Preferred: Master's degree Licensure Required: None Preferred: Possess comprehensive knowledge of healthcare industry Have familiarity with planned giving fundraising Experience 8-10+ years of major gifts fundraising experience, preferably in a hospital/healthcare or academic setting, with proven success in raising gift commitments of six figures or more. Proven ability to motivate, engage, and work with high-value prospects and donors, volunteers, senior staff, and similar constituencies in a collaborative manner. Demonstrated performance history of: meeting or exceeding activity metrics closing and soliciting major gifts effective leadership and management of staff campaign fundraising and volunteer management experience in the design and implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and programs an understanding of planned giving Experience with stewardship and donor recognition programs a plus. Ability to learn and easily explain often-complex medical conditions, treatments, and related terminology. Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rule a plus. Skills Excellent communication and writing skills. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office technology and proven experience using a fundraising/constituent management database, e.g., Raiser's Edge, Blackbaud CRM. Proven ability to develop strong and meaningful relationships with key internal and external constituencies. Problem-solving skills and sound judgment. Ability to manage and balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Professionalism, resourcefulness, flexibility, a learning mentality, trustworthiness, and the ability to adhere to confidentiality guidelines. Excellent ability to manage tasks efficiently and pay close attention to detail. Strong adherence to patient privacy, confidentiality, and other hospital network protocols.
