Director, Commercial Ventures Job ID: 8622 Business Unit: MTA Headquarters Location: New York, NY, United States Regular/Temporary: Regular Department: Date Posted: Aug 26, 2024 Description JOB TITLE: Director, Commercial Ventures SALARY RANGE: $132,800 - $150,000 HAY POINTS: 954 DEPT/DIV: Strategic Initiatives SUPERVISOR: Deputy Chief, Commercial Ventures LOCATION: 2 Broadway HOURS OF WORK: 9:00am - 5:30pm This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire. SUMMARY: This position exists to coordinate identification and execution of strategies across the MTA family that will aggressively pursue and evaluate partnerships that maximize value to the MTA and its varied stakeholders. This includes growing revenue, improving efficiency, service quality and overall performance. These initiatives are essential to achieve MTA's targets for recurring savings that are a cornerstone of the MTA's Financial Plan, as well as incremental revenue to enhance the MTA's financial viability and strengthen service delivery. The position assesses the underlying business strategy and commercial rational for new ventures and reconsidering existing arrangements where market conditions have materially changed in cooperation with agency experts; ongoing efforts of continuous improvement and coordination are essential to encouraging excellence across the family. End result are partnerships, strategies and programs to grow revenue, optimize improve efficiency and effectiveness through new or revised MTA commercial practices. RESPONSIBILITIES: Work on high-profile initiatives for MTA executive leadership to improve MTA's financial viability, service quality and overall performance. Work with the clean energy and real estate groups to identify areas of opportunity for commercial or more cost-effective operations. Lead interdepartmental MTAHQ and interagency working groups to execute projects critical to reshaping MTA into a more innovative, commercially-minded, and cost-effective agency. Lead in managing Commercial Ventures' effort towards realizing "˜best practices' in HQ and agency commercial applications and partnerships review, particularly with regard to business case review and market trend analysis; develop and manage best practice Commercial Panels to encourage better decision-making and consideration of commercial opportunities. Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential. Is held accountable for overseeing and evaluating contractor performance, where applicable: Observing the work performed by the contractor; Reviewing invoices and approving them if the work has contractual standards; Addressing performance issues with the contractor when possible; and Escalating issues to other parties as needed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong interpersonal skills with an established record of successfully completing projects by obtaining group consensus and cooperation among people with no direct reporting relationship to the position. Excellent quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills, together with demonstrated proficiency in business case development and implementation planning. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the talent to discern different contexts and audiences and to reach consensus on strategy. Must be able to follow through with implementation in a complex organization and assess need for adjustments to achieve success. Must be capable of building a strong and successful network, developing new relationships and influencing decision makers. Demonstrated leadership skills in team and/or group settings, including team process and staff development skills. Ability to prioritize among competing needs and opportunities and manage multiple projects at the same time. Demonstrated ability to work with all internal levels within a given organization. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies. External agencies may include the Governor's Office for New York State, New York City government, elected and other public officials, as well as any staff located at other federal or state agencies or authorities. Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with key internal and/or external stakeholders. Must have strong managerial skills to effectively direct a staff of professional and technical employees in implementing the short- and long-term goals and direction for the area of responsibility. Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible. Demonstrated analytical capabilities and quantitative skills. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree; and Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in product management or go-to-market start-up or corporate roles, consulting, finance, public administration or public transportation agency. Minimum of 2-5 years managerial experience in a start-up, corporate or government organization with responsibility for identifying, analyzing and implementing new business practices and strategies. PREFERRED Master's degree in a related field. Attention to detail.
