This is a position with grade 15 This position reports to Maintenance Manager Your role and responsibilities ABB's Distribution Solutions Division provides utility, industrial and commercial customers with safe, smart, and sustainable technologies for the distribution of electricity. With ABB Ability enabled digital solutions at its core, our extensive portfolio includes distribution automation products, switching, limiting, measuring, and sensing devices, switchgear, modular substation packages, and related services. As a Maintenance Machinist Worker, your role will be responsible for manual lathe/milling operations including drilling, boring, and broaching. Conventional milling and lathe work using various lathes including vertical mills, surface grinders, torches, MiG, tig, and stick welders. In your role, you will work with design/manufacturing engineers for product design, parts for the shop as well as molds. Also, in your role you will be responsible for helping maintain production equipment and preventative maintenance on such equipment. Qualifications for the role Main Accountabilities: Executes the assigned work according to agreed workflows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines. Responds to emergencies/breakdowns. Reports for records all recurring problems with machinery, equipment and parts that can be identified and addressed using machine shop equipment Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on shop equipment, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment such as welders and surface grinders, manual lathes, and manual milling machines. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt. Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with 5-S, procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Adheres to the health, safety and environmental guidelines and directives to ensure safety of people and resources. Dimensions: This position requires thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and standard practices in the industrial machinist/mechanic field of expertise. The individual must have the ability to work from plans, blueprints, sketches, models, and oral or written instructions, and to exercise judgment in determining techniques. The individual must be able to troubleshoot on various machines, processes and procedures and communicate with all levels of people and customers. It is critical that the individual in this role is a leader, good listener, problem solver and can make recommendations or solutions. Challenges: Follow standard practices and procedures in resolving basic and complex problems. Decisions are usually based on established precedents and may affect quality and accuracy to a degree. Errors may result in lost time and rework. Knowledge, Skills, Experience: Requires an associate degree or diploma in machining process. Or 8 years' experience Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, models and oral or written instructions and to exercise judgment in determining techniques and methods to be used. Technical understanding and familiarity with all machine shop equipment Computer literate and Microsoft Office Products. Understanding a manufacturing environment and terminology. Strong sense of customer urgency. Must be a self-starter and willing to learn all positions. Required to wear steel toe safety shoes and safety glasses.
