Job Overview The Controller is responsible for overseeing accounting functions that provide an accurate financial status and reporting of the overall bank, in compliance with state and federal regulation and company policies and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Work within a team to ensure that reconciliations, exception processing, and funding deadlines are completed in a timely manner. Principal Accountabilities Accountable for establishing and monitoring internal processes to ensure procedures and processes comply with regulatory requirements that critical duties are completed timely and accurately, coordinating with other departments as needed. Functions in the area range from Investment Portfolio Management, Account Reconciliations, Internal, External, SEC and Regulatory Reporting, along with Supervisory responsibilities. Represent the Bank to both internal and external customers in a courteous, professional manner in face-to-face, written and telephone communications. Accountable for adherence to compliance standards including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), quality of documentation, timeliness and the ability to exercise prudent judgment for solutions from unexpected situations that arise. Actively protect confidentiality of customer and account information. Demonstrate Horizon Bank's commitment to the communities we serve through involvement in local organizations and events. Duties Oversight of all accounting functions, included but not limited to loans and deposits, investment, tax, fixed assets, accounts payable and reconciliations Ensuring compliance with all GAAP reporting standards. Establishing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures. Ensuring compliance with all internal controls. Manage preparation and filing for SEC and Regulatory Reporting. Assist in Merger and Acquisition Analysis and Closing Processes including but not limited to due diligence and integration of financial systems. Report suspicious transactions or unusual occurrences to supervisor. Conduct and document periodic risk reviews and run reports as needed. Perform all work in compliance with established regulations, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and instructions. Maintain customer confidence and protect bank operations by keeping information private and confidential. Participate in ongoing skill, compliance, risk management and security training as required for the position and apply knowledge in daily tasks. Other duties as assigned. Personnel Management Lead recruitment efforts and partner with Human Resources to recruit, hire, retain and develop a talented and diverse workforce. Coordinate training for new hires and in conjunction with performance and developmental needs. Monitor behavior and results to effectively coach and motivate team members to achieve service and sales goals. Prepare and conduct scheduled performance evaluations. Address and document performance issues. Schedule employees, manage time off requests and approve weekly timecards. Responsible for building and developing a successful team as well as staff retention. Involve staff in planning, decision-making and process improvement. Responsible for encouraging continuous enhancement of subordinates' knowledge and competencies to foster their successful career advancement. Qualifications & Skills College degree in accounting, finance or related field of study. CPA license preferred Minimum of 10 years' experience in banking, public accounting or equivalent education and experience. 5+ years of managerial and team development experience preferred. Strong knowledge of Microsoft software applications. Experience with the FISERV core system is preferred. Knowledge of industry standards as they relate to GAAP Accounting and general departmental functions. Exceptional organization, time management and follow-up skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, bank employees and outside service providers. Ability to follow detailed instructions and a wide range of procedures requiring sound judgement. Ability to perform complex mathematical computations using various business machines and/or computers. Must have proficient typing and computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
