Senior Project Engineer - Alsip Facility Alsip, IL, USA Req #3108 Wednesday, October 9, 2024 Griffith Foods is a global manufacturer of food products. We provide a wide range of taste and texture components for food industry customers throughout the world. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing cost-effective technological solutions for the assigned site(s). Responsible for carrying out capital projects using the Early Equipment Management (EEM) framework within the GPS Methodology, this position executes engineering design, development of specifications, scope of work definition, project planning and execution, as well as organizing and coordinating resource schedules and budgets, everything with the ultimate objective of achieving Vertical Start-Up (VSU) in most of the assigned capital initiatives. Project Management Coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within the assigned facility (or facilities). Exercises functional authority over personnel that work on Capital projects, such as Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and outside contractors; this includes coordinating and negotiating project staffing requirements. Provides integral communication with the broader team to enable planning, troubleshooting, and execution of key initiatives. This includes the preparation and presentation of plans to project stakeholders / Steering Committee depending on the size of each capital initiative. Responsible for the management of the overall CAPEX process and project outcomes of the plant team. This includes overall control of expenditures within unit & specific project budget. Responsible for capital cash flow forecasting and spending. Carries out process improvement initiatives through Capital Projects. Coordinates the launch of manufacturing upgrades including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results, as well as being responsible for project integration into the plant operation. Technological Subject Matter Expertise Makes recommendations in the manufacturing processes for improvements in all SQDCM Supply Chain dimensions (Safety & Sustainability, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale), based on technological knowledge. Designs, develops, sources and tests tools, machinery and equipment for recommended improvements (including but not limited to materials & production flow and speed improvement, assembly methods optimization, energy reduction, etc). Has extensive knowledge of Employee Health & Safety, Environmental, Food Safety and Quality Systems standards (internal, external and governmental). Incorporates this knowledge flawlessly into CAPEX projects. Leads and supports EHS, Environmental and FSQS CAPEX initiatives, promoted locally, regionally and globally. Reviews and signs-off over product design for compliance with engineering principles, sustainability, ergonomics, internal and external standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems. Evaluates and approves equipment, building and product design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. Strategic Planning Support Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment, in support of the development of Master Plans for the assigned site(s). Such Master Plans shall be updated at least once a year. Maintains interface with Business Unit and Supply Chain Leadership (Supply Chain Director / VP of Supply Chain) to provide Capital Plan updates and ensures customer needs are met. Early Management and VSU expertise This position is the subject matter expert for Early Management and VSU within the assigned site, and incorporates its concepts to each initiative. As such, this position owns the VSU roadmap for each project as necessary. Additionally, this position is the subject matter expert for Maintenance Prevention, Design FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), TT&T (Technology Transfer and Training), FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) and CQV (Commissioning, Qualification and Verification) methodologies. This position assigns and oversees project personnel over each specific phases of the VSU cycle of a project, documenting all aspects of project execution within the VSU framework, such as project deliverable definition, design lock (Integrated Design Brief & Scope) document elaboration, FAT, SAT and CQV checklists elaboration and execution, etc. This position would mentor other project engineers and provide daily guidance. Other Participates in special projects, other duties or tasks that may be assigned as required. Capital budget for plants varies between $2,000,000 and $10,000,000 per year. Individual capital project sizes typically vary between $100,000 to $5,000,000 and up to $15,000,000 each Capital plant projects can deal with any plant technical issue including, but not limited to air handling, dust control, raw material and final product handling, warehousing and storage racks, electrical power and controls, flooring, conveyors, fire protection, bar coding/labeling, utilities, packaging equipment, structural issues, lighting, HVAC, mixing equipment, metal detection, check weighing, plant renovations, etc. This position will make decisions over capital assignment / redeployment, project personnel changes, methodologies to use, product, machine and process design, etc. Knowledge and Experience Minimum 7 years hands on, Engineering Project Management and execution experience required. Working knowledge in site categories (dry mixes, soups/bases, flavor systems, sauces and dressings, as applicable to the site) processes as well as prior experience with building expansions for a food process environment is strongly preferred. University degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related fields like Mechatronic Engineering is required.
