The RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Director - Advanced Manufacturing Deployment and Digitalization. The candidate will join the Advanced Manufacturing discipline, which specializes in the development, demonstration, and transition of new manufacturing processes, optimization tools, and process models for use across RTX products. The team develops technologies across a variety of technical areas including additive manufacturing, repair, design tools, digital thread, electrification, smart manufacturing, sustainability, amongst many others. The individual will work with the team in a fast-paced R&D environment alongside leading scientists and engineers from across RTRC and the greater RTX organization (including Collins Aerospace, Pratt and Whitney, and Raytheon) to develop and transition advanced manufacturing technologies to business unit operations teams to enable the next generation of Aerospace and Defense applications. Activities will include the identification of key offramps and transitions for internally developed advanced manufacturing technologies, identification and engagement with transition partners, and closure of capability gaps required for successful adoption. The Associate Director - Advanced Manufacturing Deployment and Digitalization will be challenged with defining, proposing, and obtaining internal and external funding to support gap closure and transition of technologies to business unit manufacturing facilities. The candidate should have broad knowledge of both conventional and emerging advanced manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing, machining, forming, and material deposition and a strong background in digitalization of manufacturing processes. The candidate should be eager to work in a cross-disciplinary environment, alongside leading experts across RTRC and RTX to define, market, propose, and execute IRAD and CRAD programs with broad impact across the organization. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills and be capable of briefing RTRC senior management and building collaborative relationships and programs with external customers and partners, as well as members of the technical staff. Qualifications You Must Have: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or related field and 12+ years of related work experience or a Master's degree with 9+ years of related work experience or a PhD with 7+ years of related work experience. Proven track record of transitioning new and emerging manufacturing technologies into production within Aerospace and Defense or other highly regulated industry and experience with digitalization of manufacturing processes to improve operations in an industrial production environment Background in defining and executing large, multi-year strategic programs for internal customers or external funding agencies and b road experience engaging with operations teams to deploy digital manufacturing tools Hands-on knowledge of one or more manufacturing methods including but not limited to: additive manufacturing (powder bed fusion , directed energy deposition , etc. ), direct write of electronics, cold spray, hybrid manufacturing, machining, forming, casting, joining, welding, robotic forming or assembly, composites, etc. U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required. The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
