The General Maintenance Technician III is responsible for maintaining the company's buildings, facilities and equipment in an operating and functional condition. Duties may include any of the following: electrical repairs or installations, fleet repairs, plumbing, welding, carpentry, painting and plastering, masonry, machine servicing, and general mechanical maintenance (e.g. Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning or HVAC and sheet metal). Essential Responsibilities: Under general supervision, performs tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Reviews service requests for repairs and maintenance, determines nature of problem, and recommends appropriate solution. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of a group of employees. Leads and directs by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Coordinates work with outside contractors. Assures code and building standards are met. Performs repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance on buildings and facilities, equipment, fixtures, and systems. Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains facility systems. Performs work based on dispatched service or daily/weekly work schedules. Reviews work as required to document specific needs (materials, supplies, instructions, etc). Assists in the movement of furniture, materials, and equipment as required. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Works with or oversees subcontractor activities as directed by supervisor or work schedule. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested. Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: High School graduate or demonstrated equivalent. 3 years of experience in area of specialization. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: Position involve working in environments (e.g., shipboard, labs, outside locations, etc.) where mechanical equipment, weapons, etc. are being installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
