The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for keeping the retreat center operational by completing general repairs and preventative maintenance of property (indoor and outdoor). Lives on site (studio apartment-all costs paid including water, gas, etc...). The retreat center has a no pet policy. Provides weekend, evening, and other coverage times to address urgent matters when the full-time Maintenance Engineer is not present on-site. Will work with and take direction from the Full-Time Maintenance worker and Director of the Retreat Center. Must remain of sound mind and body while providing on-premises coverage hours. Part-time hours (about 20/week) and on-premises coverage required. Typically works day hours M-F, through Summer of 2025. Expected to be full-time after Summer 2025, or in conjunction with retirement of the full-time staff member. Responsibilities : Repair lights, ballasts, lighting controls, lighting systems, retrofitting and converting florescent, metal halide and HPS to LED lighting. Troubleshoot and diagnose faulty electrical circuitry, pumps, motors, motor controls, science lab equipment, kitchen equipment (commercial and residential), exhaust fans. Install and/or troubleshoot equipment, emergency generators and systems. Continual preventative maintenance on all systems and equipment. Installation of new equipment, wiring of new equipment, pumps and motors. Occasional temporary power projects. Operate and maintain emergency systems, backup generators, and emergency power. Open, repair, replace broken, clogged pipes, and drain lines. Repair and replace domestic water application systems such as piping, faucets, regulators, water softeners. Experience in operating manual and electric drain machines. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair and preventative maintenance on refrigerant systems, heating water systems, ventilation systems, steam heat, refrigerant, chilled water, steam, radiators, heat exchangers, boilers and chillers. Diagnosing and repairing pneumatics, compressors, pumps, motors, air handler units, fan coil units, and exhaust fans. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair of commercial and residential kitchen equipment to include refrigerators, microwaves, deep fat fryers, ovens, gas kitchen equipment, steam kitchen equipment, ice makers, water softeners, and dishwashers. Lawn care and mowing, clearing any downed trees, landscaping including erosion control, and maintaining trails throughout the forest. as necessary. Responsible for snow removal. Licenses/Certifications: Must have a current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some education preferred (ie technical / trade school or college). Formal training in HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical systems is preferred. Minimum of 5 + years of building maintenance experience in a Commercial setting with a strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, electrical, and plumbing systems. Familiarity with lawn care, tree removal, landscaping, soil erosion, and country road care and repair. Trade Journeyman, 3rd Grade Engineers License and/ or back flow certifications strongly desired. Ability to operate riding lawn mowers, tractors, chain-saws and other tools that are involved in lawn and trail care and minor repairs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Troubleshooting, maintaining and replacing lights, ballasts, lighting controls, lighting systems, retrofitting and converting florescent, metal halide and HPS to LED lighting. Working on 208/120 Volt 3 phase systems and 480/277 Volt 3 phase systems. Proven knowledge of electrical safety procedures and the importance of following all safety rules / procedures. Troubleshooting diagnosing, repairing and preventative maintenance of: steam/ condensation systems. pressure reducing valves (PRV's), steam traps, controls, condensate pumps, and strainers, refrigerant systems, heating water systems, ventilation systems, steam heat, refrigerant, chilled water, steam, radiators, heat exchangers, boilers and chillers. Diagnosing and repairing pneumatics, compressors, pumps, motors, air handler units, fan coil units, and exhaust fans, commercial and residential kitchen equipment to include refrigerators, microwaves, deep fat fryers, ovens, gas kitchen equipment, steam kitchen equipment, ice makers, water softeners, electric drain machines, and dishwashers.
