Primary Function of Organizational Unit The primary function of the School of Law is to provide a quality legal education to its students. The goal is for the students to pass the bar examination and to obtain full-time legal employment. One of the fastest growing areas on the legal profession is technology law. Thus, NCCU's Technology Law and Policy Center will serve to prepare the students for jobs in the area. Primary Purpose of Position The Director of Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Program will work with the Associate Dean of Technology and Innovation and the Center's staff to develop a data privacy and cybersecurity educational program designed to equip our law students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving fields of data protection and cybersecurity law. The Director of Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Program will work with the Associate Dean to develop an innovative curriculum that includes both theoretical and practical components, enabling students to understand and navigate the complex landscape of digital privacy and security. The Director will also be instrumental in forging strong industry connections, facilitating internships, and enhancing job placement opportunities for our graduates. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and familiarity with and understanding of emerging technologies in the law practice area. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, able to meet deadlines, and work well in a collaborative environment to achieve common goals. The candidate will be able to develop productive working relationships and work effectively as a team member as well as independently. Minimum Education/Experience * Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school * 5+ years of professional experience * Prior administrative experience * Demonstrated expertise in data privacy or cybersecurity law * Prior teaching experience at the law school level, with a commitment to excellence in instruction and student mentorship. The Director of Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Program will working with the Associate Dean of Technology and Innovation develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Program, provide leadership in shaping the program's strategic direction, including identifying emerging trends and opportunities in data privacy and cybersecurity law, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments and institutions to enhance the program's impact and reach. Function Instructional Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. The Director of Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Program will work with the Associate Dean of Technology and Innovation to deliver high-quality instruction in data privacy and cybersecurity law courses, create engaging and innovative teaching materials, including lectures, assignments, and simulations, to promote student learning and critical thinking, and mentor and advise students interested in pursuing careers in data privacy and cybersecurity law. Function Public Service Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. The Director of Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Program will engage and build relationships with the broader legal community, including practitioners, policymakers, and industry stakeholders, to promote awareness of data privacy and cybersecurity issues. The Director will also work with community organizations to plan programs that focus on social justice and technology.
