About the job IP Network Engineer Position Summary: The IP Network Engineer will work with senior staff and management on projects encompassing growth, testing, and management of our IP and access network. The position will perform and document proof of concept and regression testing, as well as help to develop tools to assist in managing the network. This role is important to provide higher-tier support to the day-to-day operations teams including managing tickets and resolving the issues in a timely manner. The IP Network Engineer will also work closely with the development teams to ensure proper design and configuration of the RSB systems. What you will be doing: Maintain an RSB IP technology lab to serve as the primary test environment for Lumos' IP and access network. Perform proof of concept testing for emerging technologies, including new equipment, protocols, and products and Test network configurations. Perform full regression testing for all new hardware and software releases. Test procedures for introducing new technologies. Provide support to the RSB organization including managing the tickets in the Engineering stages, the escalation from field operations needing assistance, ensuring proper design and implementation. Publish standards based on requirements from Sr. Engineers and Architects for network configuration, including routing policy, traffic engineering, configuration standards, inter-and intra-POP topology, peering policies, and guidelines for maintenance activities. Generate documentation for new technologies for use by Engineering and Operations. Monitor IP network capacity and create reports to track capacity trends. Initiate and manage augment projects to completion, including developing costs and justification. Work with Vendors to manage quotes, procurement timelines, and delays. Create and maintain tools to provide visibility to network data and to monitor network capacity, standards adherence, and performance. Create and maintain an equipment inventory with the ability to generate reports. Manage systems and applications that support the IP Technology and Operations teams. Oversee adherence to network design and configuration standards. What you will need: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical field and/or equivalent work experience. Experience with any of the following is highly desirable: Service provider routing and switching technologies, IP routing equipment from Cisco, Juniper, and/or Alcatel-Lucent, UNIX systems (*BSD, Solaris, Linux), programming and scripting (C, Perl, SQL), electrical and optical circuit test equipment. Proven experience performing vendor evaluations based on defined requirements that deliver innovative network broadband solutions Must be proficient with MS Office product suite, and working knowledge of fiber inventory management and mapping systems. Key Competencies: Strong desire to learn and demonstrate initiative in pursuing knowledge and mastering new skills. Must have a strong aptitude for problem-solving. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
