Job Description The SBA Underwriter is responsible for underwriting business purpose loans of $5 million or less under the guidance of both the SBA and Bank Lending Policy, ensuring the Bank's standard of risk/credit quality and associated procedures are met. This team member will review, analyze, and render loan decisions for applications for SBA 7(a) loans as per current SOP requirements. This position will review complex loan structures, eligibility, financial information (business & personal) and relevant analysis (credit bureaus etc.) The credit analysis being a vital component to SBA/Bank Credit Risk Profile, the SBA Underwriter must analyze and provide guidance surrounding crucial ratios/complete financial analysis, business/guarantor profile, etc. to assist in assessing creditworthiness of an applicant. The incumbent will also obtain the appropriate approvals on requests outside of assigned credit authority as well as document the appropriate denial information to ensure the accurate preparation of all denial letters. The incumbent will assist in SBA Audits and Compliance requests. The SBA Underwriter will also work with Leadership to develop strategy for processes and improvements within the SBA team. Minimum Qualifications: Must have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience. Must have 2-4 years of credit review experience, preferably underwriting SBA loans. Must possess a strong background reviewing personal and business financial statements, with proven ability to render sound credit decision on own authority. A strong understanding of SBA SOP is preferred. Must have a strong knowledge in business credit underwriting and analysis, including the review and interpretation of client financial statements and tax returns, review and understanding of data in both personal and business bureaus and a familiarization with Dun & Bradstreet. Proficiency in Excel is required. Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills to interact with both internal and external customers. Must have strong PC spreadsheet skills and excellent analytical skills. This position requires independent thinking in collaboration with other professionals to address financial issues.
