The University of Virginia Athletics Department is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director for Compliance. Compliance Analysts execute the operational activities of a compliance program. They are knowledgeable about the complex legal and regulatory issues potentially impacting University operations, and follow established protocol when dealing with compliance procedures, such as compliance reporting and document review. Analysts exercise some degree of independence and autonomy, but will seek help before handling more complex functions. The Assistant/Associate Director for Compliance is responsible for work required to comply with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations. The incumbent provides pertinent and timely compliance information to various internal and external constituencies, responding to questions and interpreting regulations when necessary. The incumbent will also assist with other compliance duties that support the overall objectives of the compliance program. The Assistant/Associate Director routinely analyzes situations; provides interpretation; identifies recommendations; initiates action; and provides guidance on all matters pertaining to their duties. The incumbent frequently coordinates meetings, disseminates information, and provides instruction to various internal and external constituencies. They also monitor processes and systems to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Uses initiative and experience to resolve issues pertaining to the comprehensive compliance program. The Assistant/Associate Director for Compliance works closely with individuals and groups in an effort to build relationships and promote the compliance program and is accountable for NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations and submitting documentation as required by governing bodies. The position works under general supervision and reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs. Responsibilities include: Primary Contact for Several Teams - Office responsibilities are primarily assigned by sport. Responsibility includes managing all aspects of compliance for 3-6 sports, up to and including: Provide rules interpretations; process waivers and submit violations; produce and provide rules education; monitor initial and continuing eligibility; facilitate camps and clinics; assist with managing and monitoring NIL activity; etc. Communication - Coordinate and monitor external facing communication channels for Compliance Office. Teamworks Compliance+Recruiting Software - Staff liaison with Teamworks. Complimentary Admissions - Review and approve current and prospective student-athlete complimentary admission requests for assigned sports. CARA/RARA - Review and approve CARA logs. Time Management - Manage time management program. Telephone & Text Monitoring - Ensure telephone calls and text messages are compliant with NCAA rules. Personnel - Monitor and maintain personnel in accordance with NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations. Business Office - Staff liaison with Business Office and assist with Expense Report monitoring and approval. Office of Youth Protection - Staff liaison with Office of Youth Protection. Clery Act - Review travel documentation to ensure compliance with Clery Act. Books - Oversee book disbursement and reimbursement process. Student Assistance Fund - Manage the Student Assistance Fund (including international taxes, health insurance, etc.). Drug Testing - Provide necessary information for drug testing program. Merchandise Requests - Oversee donation requests from a compliance perspective. Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree. Juris Doctor or relevant Master's Degree preferred. Experience: Two or more years of relevant experience. Experience in Athletics Compliance is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of procedures to monitor and enforce rules and regulations. Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
