SURGICAL TECH-ORFull-time or part-time position located at the Chardon Surgery CenterPosition PurposeAssists surgical team during operative procedures. Arranges and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the operating team. Assists in preparing and moving patients, and in cleaning the operating theater. The OR Tech is responsible for the provision of surgical care to meet identified patient outcomes and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Registered Nurse.Working RelationshipsPosition reports to: Administrative Director Position supervises: N/AInterpersonal RelationshipsAs a representative of FACILITY, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct affect on the facility's image and perceptions of quality service. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork congruent with facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations and set an example for the staff.Position RequirementsLicenses or Certifications: Successful completion of Operating Room Technician program. Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course preferred.Education, Vocational Training and ExperienceSuccessful completion of Operating Room Technician program.ExperienceMinimum 1 year experience in surgical assisting preferred.Skills and AbilitiesAdaptability to perform a variety of duties and repetitive tasks.Ability to read and follow direction.Ability to interact in a positive KnowledgeDelivers safe patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse and according to surgery center policy and procedure.Demonstrates ability to respond to patient care and facility needs in an emergency and implements basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).Demonstrates knowledge of specific responsibilities in all emergency ability to meet patient's and family's learning needs as identified in the plan of care.Orients the patient and family to the patient care environment, surgery center and unit routines.Assists the Registered Nurse with patient discharges.Demonstrates continued competence in treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.Provides appropriate interventions related to safety issues.Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.ProductivityFollows established policies and procedures with regard to attendance.Maintains attendance according to guidelines and policy established by facility.Adheres to tardiness policy.Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness in accordance with established departmental procedures as noted by supervisor.Requests scheduled time off according to procedure as noted by supervisor.Utilizes time pletes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.Demonstrates the competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies pletes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy.Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for facility.Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.Regularly maintains work area and equipment in a pristine manner.Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe appropriate financial management responsibilities.Provides input re: equipment needs/supply pletes patient charges in accordance with facility procedure.Demonstrates sound cost containment techniques.Performs all other response to teaching teracts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional facility environment.Displays a caring and as noted by manager.Requests scheduled time off according to procedure as noted by supervisor.It may be necessary to perform some overtime beyond regularly scheduled work hours and weekends to provide patient care.Some on call duty may be required.Because of the nature of patient care and pace, this job can be stressful and hectic.The job is extremely people oriented and fast paced.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Work is indoors in climate-controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids that may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor REQUIREMENTS:Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and feel objects. Ability to climb, pull, push, and kneel. Ability to push a gurney with 150 lb. patient. Maximum unassisted lift = over 100 lbs. Ability to wear lead apron and push heavy equipment.DEGREE OF SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO POSITION:Minimal. Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
