General Summary: The Lead Maintenance Technician performs a variety highly skilled duties and responsibilities involved in the maintenance, repair, service and installation of equipment, machinery, and related facilities. The Incumbent keeps records and prepares reports; and performs a variety of highly complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. The Lead Maintenance Technician performs the tasks common to the classification under minimal supervision, The incumbent leads the training and mentoring of lower-level mechanics and maintenance technicians. Associate degree in a Technical or Trades field AND 7 - 10 years of experience required. State of Michigan Licensed Master Electrician that has worked in the commercial industrial sector within the last two years under a contractor- required. State of Michigan Mechanical License with certification classes 1,2,3,6 and 8 that has worked in the commercial/industrial sector within the last two years- required. Completion of an apprenticeship - preferred. If no degree, the following is required: High School Diploma with 11 or more years of applicable experience required. State of Michigan Licensed Master Electrician that has worked in the commercial industrial sector within the last two years under a contractor- required. State of Michigan Mechanical License with certification classes 1,2,3,6 and 8 that has worked in the commercial/industrial sector within the last two years- required. In this role, you will: Lead the installs, maintenance and repairs of complex mechanical systems and equipment utilizing skills in welding, pipefitting, plumbing, mill righting and machinery. Maintains a safe work environment through job planning and identification and correction of hazards and adherence to facilities safety rules and procedures. Troubleshoots and isolates highly complex mechanical problems; implements corrective actions, as appropriate. Performs complex carpentry work, small engine, and tool repair, as required. Plans and lays out work in accordance with applicable standards and codes. Recommends changes to improve efficiency and/or quality of mechanical operations, as appropriate. Reads and interprets highly complex plans, diagrams, and specifications. Maintains and repairs heavy mobile equipment. Provides estimates of time and material required; requisitions, tools, and supplies in accordance with established procedures. Prepares and maintains highly complex documentation and reports, as required. Leads highly complex preventative maintenance duties such as cleaning, oiling, and lubricating equipment as assigned. Directs activities of lower-level maintenance as necessary to support the overall building operation. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification. Organization skills and attentiveness to detail Interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors. Demonstrates skill to perform basic welding and cutting. Demonstrates ability to read and understand mechanical piping drawings, equipment assembly drawings, technical manuals, and blueprints.
