Essential Functions Coordinates, schedules, and implements intra-departmental Operations engineering tasks. Analyzes engineering problems. Provides daily supervision for company and contract engineers. Conducts and/or assists in the implementation of design reviews, associated paperwork, drawings for accuracy, content and completeness. Reviews and/or prepares engineering records, reports, drawings, documents, etc. Maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging state-of-the-art network and data systems technologies, architectures and products. Recommend strategic network architecture planning and network evolution policy decisions in support of corporate initiatives, customer demand, technology changes, economic and service reliability criteria. Provide written and verbal feedback regarding processes, methods, technologies and proposed solutions related to configuration strategies, installation specifications, circuit types, including specific technical hardware etc... Assure that new projects are deployed according to standards while maintaining security and minimizing cost. Partner with Product, Engineering and Operations teams to ensure network technologies fulfill product standards and definitions. Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external agencies. Design/Provision customer and network services, assigned via the Metasolv or other task management system, using the Granite or CHR inventory system to build records and assign ports and facilities. Research existing circuits for design and order history, as needed. Data Integrity: Clean up records in Granite, as identified. Process all disconnect orders by cleaning the circuits out of Granite or CHR and Metasolv or other task management system, as well as removing them from spreadsheets. Design some of the less complex circuit types, such as DS1s, DIA, MPLS, and splitters, by creating DLRs in Granite. Receive ASRs and ValleyNet orders via email and distribute appropriately internally. Other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects. Must possess strong work ethic in supporting customer needs, responding promptly and consistently. Knowledge of the telecommunications industry, of the activities of Operations engineering design. Engineering and electronic principles appropriate to electronic communications. Skill in defining, evaluating, and solving engineering problems and communicating technical issues to both technical and non-technical personnel in conducting engineering studies and surveys. Analyzing a technical system or design into component parts. Organize and maintain engineering files. Demonstrated clear, informative, persuasive and collaborative verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, project management, and written/oral communications skills are required. Strong oral and written communications and professionalism a must. Attention to detail is critical. The ability to work with a large number of people with varying backgrounds and to effectively represent Lumos. Other Experience & Requirements 4-year technical degree and/or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience pertaining to the telecommunications industry including demonstrated experience in telecommunications system design and deployment. Fiber or Telecom industry experience preferred.
