Senior Mechanical Project Manager (Public Sector) Job ID # of Openings 1 Job Locations US-MA-Andover | US-MA-Hadley | US-MA-Braintree Category Project Management Type Regular Full-Time Overview NV5's Planning and Design Group is recruiting a Senior Project Manager with a mechanical background to plan, develop, coordinate, and direct a number of public sector projects concurrently including acting as primary contact for the firm in all contractual and project-related communications. The Senior Project Manager works closely with the Group Leader(s) to ensure that company goals and guidelines are maintained. This position also develops and maintains client relationships, develops business opportunities, and promotes NV5's services, reputation, and name throughout the industry. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of progressive project management experience, specifically within the public work sector and have established client contacts in this sector. Flexible office locations (Braintree, Hadley, or Andover, MA) and a hybrid work schedule are available. Responsibilities Responsible for project planning and managing schedules and budgets to complete work on time and profitably; plays major role in conceptualizing design and overseeing all aspects of the project, including reviewing work of interdisciplinary team to secure and successfully manage projects through demonstrated technical and managerial skills. Responsible for business development for both new and existing clients. Must be able to identify and contact new potential clients through business/peer contacts, identify new market sectors, and develop strategies to gain work and new projects, update and develop marketing material and procedures, and attend industry organization events and society meetings. Plays an active role in marketing activities, including performing client marketing/maintenance, and cross-selling of services available beyond scope requirements for procurement of future services. Applies organizational and management expertise to unique and complex projects and is able to effectively diagnose problems, prepare course of action, and implement the course of action to provide an appropriate solution or resolution of the problem. Prepares the contractual agreement with the client for review and signature by NV5 staff based on the commitment authority matrix. Ensures proposals are prepared in a timely manner and submitted to the client. Responsible for the accuracy and quality of all technical work. Maintains positive client relationships and facilitates exchange of project related information through regular verbal/written communication, including the development of project status reports. Reviews all correspondence prior to issuance. Edits and/or reviews technical content prepared by others for reports or other deliverables. Has a general knowledge of all disciplines so that potential issues can be identified and addressed; oversees coordination of trades. Maintains project electronic files. Attends client meetings. May be required to take over responsibility or provide guidance to other project managers for at risk projects. Works with minimal direction or supervision through demonstrated success with similar project responsibilities. Maintains industry reputation by always conducting business in a courteous and professional manner. Other duties as required or assigned. Financial Management: Understands basic revenue models, and percent complete projections and makes decisions accordingly. Works within, and understands, NV5's pricing model and billing procedures. Accurately forecasts revenue, profitability, margins, and utilization. Conducts monthly revenue reviews of the project financials with the team and with senior leadership. Monitors changes in agreed upon scope and submits ASAs in a timely manner. Actively follows-up on AR and outstanding invoices. Responsible for invoices including preliminary review of pre-bills. Communication: Maintains an accurate assessment of project status through effective communication with client and internally. Facilitates team and client meetings effectively. Holds regular status meetings with project team. Keeps project team well informed of changes within the organization. Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors. Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion. Qualifications Graduate from an engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation for Engineering and Technology or from a non-accredited engineering curriculum or related engineering science or with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Recommended 10+ years of progressive Project Management experience or an equivalent combination of consulting engineering experience and project management experience. Experience with public sector projects is required. Must have a general understanding of design and commissioning project requirements. PE License preferred but not required. Must keep current through continuing education. Must be knowledgeable in the operation of a computer, AutoCAD and Revit. Must have the ability to utilize various software packages to effectively manage projects. Must have strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. Must have a professional demeanor and excellent presentation skills. Must have well-developed business development skills. Possess a strong ability to make quick decisions and effectively implement actions related to decisions. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to positively interact with staff at every level of the organization. Must have ability to build an effective team, facilitate team spirit, and resolve conflicts independently. Must be able to commit to a hybrid work schedule with at least 2 days in one of NV5's Massachusetts offices. Professional activities: Must be at least a member and on a committee of one (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc.). Physical Requirements: This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm), with the ability to work on-call and extended hours (including after hours, holidays and weekends). The job is performed primarily in an indoor office environment with occasional driving to commercial and institutional job site locations and outdoor activities at the site (including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and buildings).
