Our Sr. Payroll Manager is responsible for leading US and Canada payroll strategy, process, and communications supporting/driving payroll operations and system administration with all payroll stakeholders to achieve desired business results. RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the U.S. and Canada payroll functions, including payroll configuration, processing, compliance with policies and procedures, strong internal controls, accurately executing all payroll-related tax requirements and garnishments, and developing and executing use cases for system review and testing new functionality and upgrades. Direct computation of pay according to company policies ensuring payroll and system accuracy. Exhibit a commitment to data quality by validating results against sources specified in the requirements. Balance and control earnings and deduction totals, inspect automated system output such as registers and standard reports, determine and correct out-of-balance conditions, gather payroll data for inclusion in financial statements, and calculate disability and jury duty pay. Adjust errors and complaints as required. Implement changes related to regulation, tax, or other payroll activity. Resource and lead initiatives associated with driving payroll forward as a collaborative business partner and function. Implement company-wide policies and procedures as they relate to payroll execution. The study, standardize, document, and maintain procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Communicate and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to analyze current processes, identify new system functionalities/efficiencies, and recommend and implement changes. Work with outside vendors to provide expert processing support based on evaluated needs. Ensure availability of 3rd party export interfaces for insurance, wellness, flex spending, 401(k) loans and contributions, 401(k) match, and training. Responsible for payroll implementation for acquisitions. Designs and directs the work of the team. Selects, coaches, and develops staff. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary. Recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Finance, Human Resources, or a related field CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Certified Payroll Professional issued by the American Payroll Association. WORK EXPERIENCE: At least 7 years of payroll experience, including 4 years of management-level experience processing payroll for a multi-entity company with over 5,000 employees, including the U.S. and Canada, for ten or more states/provinces. Must have 5 years of payroll administering payroll through Workday including implementation. Experience with HR/payroll system conversions and acquisition integrations. Experience administering payroll through HR technology such as Ceridian, Oracle Cloud HR, or SAP/SuccessFactors. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience with oversite for global payroll operations. Experience working in a shared services model. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Certified Payroll Professional issued by the American Payroll Association. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills necessary to interact with staff at all levels of the organization. Requires attention to detail and analytical skills necessary to evaluate situations and take appropriate action. Extensive knowledge of statistical methods, data analysis, and presentation. Demonstrated understanding of the laws and regulations that affect payroll. Critical thinking skills with the ability to research and analyze data drawn from multiple sources to find problems and make effective decisions. Strong business and financial acumen. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Ability to translate the technical nature of compensation for clear stakeholder understanding. Consultative and collaborative style that allows for influence without authority. Proficiency in MS Office applications. Highly proficient with Excel. Current knowledge of enterprise-wide (ERP) HR/payroll systems such as Workday, Oracle Cloud HR, or SAP/SuccessFactors, etc. Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
