About the job Recovery Specialist - Harm Reduction Reports to: Community Health Navigator/CEO Employee Type: Contract Salary range: $20/hr Location: Paterson, NJ Amount of travel and any other special conditions or requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license and method of transportation. The position requires localized travel. Outreach travel mileage will be reimbursed. Evening and Weekend Availability: Must be available weekday during the day and some weekends Hours per day or week: 20 hours per week The RUBY's Vision Recovery Specialist - Harm Reduction is dedicated to working with people who use drugs and those who are living with a substance use disorder with the goal of empowering them to become healthy, self-sustainable in life, and integrated into their community. The recovery specialist complements and works closely with a Navigator and provides participants a pathway toward recovery and positive change. Participate in community outreach and positive community interaction. Provide safe-use supplies, wound-care kits, hygiene supplies, and other supplies as to lessen the risk of adverse outcomes from using drugs. Develop a individual recovery plan according to clients identified goals and desires. Link participants to desired/needed services and resources according to their goals, including RealFix program. Maintain a strong knowledge of harm reduction principles & practices, local resources and treatment options. Assist participants in accessing employment, social supports, and various other supports that may be needed. Schedule and follow up with people in the program. Model recovery and resiliency principles, cultural competency, and trauma awareness and incorporate them into daily interactions with participants and colleagues. Embrace and implement harm reduction principles, recovery core values and practices into service delivery. Maintain productivity as required by the program, attend to all clients on caseload and maintain contact/follow-up as required per client. Complete Progress Notes and daily service logs within 24 hours of services rendered within the CRM. Track and maintain compliance of all required paperwork and electronic documents. Attend all scheduled trainings to help expand knowledge base of the Recovery model and other trainings. Attend and participate in weekly supervision and team meetings. Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and trainings/workshops provided by Vital Strategies and their partners. Assist in the orientation of new staff as needed. Essential Duties and Functions Assist with and communicate any crisis needs, as well as any other clinical information to supervisor/navigator as needed to support proper clinical care. Initiate and/or participate in helping an individual access a higher level of care (ex. Inpatient hospital, partial hospital, personal care home, etc.) Other duties as required by Navigator or Coordinator, or others on the leadership team. Maintain consistent coordination with the team, colleagues, other providers, etc. Carry and answer after hours calls via an on-call phone as scheduled, if needed. Request documented success stories from successfully completed participants. Qualifications Bilingual strongly preferred Working ability to use a computer and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required 1-2 years experience in the behavioral health field preferred Experience in case management preferred Valid Driver's license and personal vehicle/transportation Strong and demonstrable knowledge of recovery and harm reduction resiliency principles Peer Recovery Specialist Training/CPRS Certification required, individual may be working towards their 500 fieldwork hours
