Job Details Responsibilities of the Operating Engineer / HVAC: Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, values and legacy of Mercy Medical Center Maintain, including cleaning and repair, all systems necessary to the production of steam chill water, hot water, and condensate reclamation. Assembles structural and functional components, such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers and pipes by screwing, bolting, welding and brazing, using hand tools. Dismantles malfunctioning systems and tests components using electrical, mechanical and pneumatic testing equipment. Replaces, adjusts, troubleshoots defective or worn parts, change filters and belts on mechanical equipment. Fabricates, assembles, installs, services and/or repairs unlimited industrial and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration systems, as well as, boiler and heating components. Performs visual rounds throughout the facility including all machine rooms, boiler and chiller plants to observe operation and make adjustments as needed. Logs pressures, temperatures and fluid levels. Makes changes to pumps and valve operations in the event of leaks or failures. Monitor control system, electrical Makes adjustments to temperature and humidity levels to maintain desired levels using the Building Automation System. Performs chemical testing of boiler and chilled water systems and makes appropriate adjustments. Performs safety tests on burner shutdowns and low water cut offs, and flushing of all strainers. Performs all cleaning and repairs to boilers and associated equipment including preparation for annual insurance inspection. Advises his/her Supervisor of any operational deficiency, necessary maintenance and repair supplies needed. May be required to perform snow removal and operate heavy equipment during inclement weather. Also, will be required to work overtime for projects and emergency situations. Directs the work of others assigned to him/her. Performs related duties as assigned by his/her Supervisor. Required to perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or be required to carry out emergency duties when necessary. Must maintain all machine rooms in a neat and clean manner. Operating engineer will be available to assist Maintenance Mechanic in general maintenance tasks during off hours. Requirements for the Operating Engineer / HVAC role include: Mathematical and scientific ability/aptitude to be able to understand and perform calculations regarding all types of HVAC equipment. Must be able to properly understand electrical and mechanical blueprints and control schematics. High School Graduate or Equivalency. Graduate of Trade School, plus 6 months in specialty training. Possess NYC Refrigeration Operators Certification and/or N.I.U.L.P.E. certification. One (1) year in a vocational school on refrigeration systems Posted Salary Range USD $40.25 - USD $40.25 /Hr. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
