Freelance Opportunities in Model Shop and Paint Department at Kaleidoscope Are you a skilled and passionate model maker or painter looking for freelance opportunities? Kaleidoscope seeks talented individuals to join our growing talent pool for our model shop and paint department. Although we may not have immediate work available, we value building relationships with exceptional freelancers and will review your application for potential future opportunities. Required Experience: - Model Making: Expertise in fabricating conventional prototype models from sketches and/or CAD drawings using a wide variety of stock materials, including wood, plastics and various processes such as conventional model making, woodworking, sculpting, 3D printing and machining. - Finishing: Hand sanding skills in preparing model parts for painting, ensuring a flawless surface finish. - Paint Room Assistant: Demonstrate proficiency in mixing custom colors and spray gun painting, bringing models to life with vibrant and accurate finishes. - Mold and Casting: Creating silicone rubber molds and casting urethane parts. 3D Printing: Preparing files and printing parts. Finishing of printed parts. Please note that all applicants must be able to work onsite at our studio in Chicago. Required Skills/Abilities: - Background in painting or a related arts field is highly desirable. - Basic wood shop training or previous shop experience is a plus, enabling you to work comfortably and effectively with our materials and tools. - Strong attention to detail is essential as we strive for excellence and high craftsmanship in all our projects. - Experience collaborating and communicating effectively across departments, including model makers, project and account managers, designers, and clients. This freelance opportunity offers flexibility and intermittent work based on our workload. While we can't guarantee immediate assignments, we believe in nurturing long-term relationships with talented individuals like you.
