Requisition Id 13890 Overview: We are seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist who will focus on support of all Accounts Payable functions at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This position resides on the Accounts Payable team in the Payroll and Payment Services Group, Accounting Operations Division, Business Services Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Major Duties/Responsibilities: Uses professional judgement and discretion while working independently on Accounts Payable (AP) tasks with minimal supervision from manager. Analyzes and takes action to ensure that general ledger accounts in the AP area remain current (example: Goods Receipt/Invoice Receipt clearing account). Makes independent decisions on the validity and appropriateness vendor debits, credits, and adjustments to the AP subsidiary ledger. Performs A-123 testing yearly and updates procedures accordingly. Advises and gives guidance to internal and external customers on proper procedures within AP. Monitors financial reports to analyze trends and proactively solve AP issues as they arise. Provides guidance and direction as needed to staff that review and post purchase order related invoices. Such guidance would support accurate AP postings to the vendor record. Provide support to management through research and analysis of anomalies causing accounting errors. Reviews purchase order related commitments and assists the Finance, Payment Services, and procurement staff with related issues. Prepare GL reconciliations and audit functions as assigned. Updates internal operating procedures and creates new written procedures as required. Prepare or assist with fiscal and calendar year end requirements related to AP tax reporting. Work with SAP Functional staff on testing of support packs, major system upgrades and other changes as required. Complete special projects independently as assigned by Accounting Management. Has oversight of critical IT related functions affecting the entire Payment Services organization. Maintains strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics. Basic Qualifications: A BS degree in Accounting or a business related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience with Accounts Payable processes or general accounting functions. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability and willingness to responsibly maintain work requirements and meet stringent deadlines daily, applying self-initiative and capability for working in an autonomous and independent manner with minimum direction. Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures. Position requires superior human relations skills that promote effective and positive interactions with a diverse group of others, both internal and external to company. Candidate should have the ability to become familiar with the ORNL accounting system and external business applications to proficiently perform responsible tasks. Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory. Ability to function well in a fast-paced business environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs. Special Requirements: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
