Locum Surgery Pediatric Physician Job Description And Requirements About Locum General Surgeon Jobs This is a generalized description of locum general surgeon job requirements. Specific assignment details may vary based on the healthcare facility, geographic location, patient population and types of surgeries performed. Job Responsibilities Perform a range of surgeries including appendectomies, hernia repairs, gallbladder removals, emergency surgeries, and upper and lower endoscopies, among others. Provide preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans. Be on-call for emergency surgeries, such as trauma cases or unexpected complications. Provide consultations to patients and other medical professionals regarding surgical options and care plans. Provide patient education about post-operative care and follow-up requirements. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records. Skills Expertise in performing a wide variety of general surgeries with minimal supervision. Ability to assess complex medical situations and make sound decisions quickly. Excellent manual dexterity and precision. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Flexibility to adapt to new work environments and different medical teams. Minimum Education Requirements Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Residency training program in surgery accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). License & Certifications Board certification in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). Active and unrestricted medical license in South Carolina . Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Experience While specific requirements may vary, most locum general surgery positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience providing care in a clinical setting.
