ABOUT THE ROLE The SBL Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for identifying, selecting, developing, managing, servicing, and expanding business relationships for small and mid-size commercial clients. This includes handling new loan originations referred from business partners, including commercial lenders and retail banking centers. In coordination with MVB's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) team, the SBL Commercial Loan Officer will be responsible for contributing to the efforts to achieve the Bank's CRA goals and objectives in specific CRA target markets. This position will team up with other areas of the bank to provide a full-service relationship to bank customers by building deposits, loans, fee income and referring customers and prospects to business partners when appropriate. WHAT YOU'LL DO CRA Lending: Responsible for ensuring that the Bank's CRA lending and overall goals are met. Work closely with SVP, Commercial Loan Officer to identify low to moderate income lending opportunities along with CDL (Community Development Lending) and be sure that loan originations are sufficient to meet or exceed annual loan production goals. Participate in local community organizations/events that position MVB positively in the community and provide potential CRA lending prospects for MVB. Commercial Loan Production: Work closely with internal partners to facilitate the development of new business relationships on referred loan requests, typically under $500,000. Develops and services business loans for business and individual clients within limits of authority; Gather & organize leads, potential leads in databases & effectively uses them on a day-to-day basis to generate profitable relationships for the Bank; Interviews applicants to develop financial and credit information, to ascertain needs, abilities, earnings, and Bank risk and requests necessary information, such as financial and operating statements; Evaluates and extends credit and terms in accordance with policy and lending authority; Have the ability to effectively underwrite loans using knowledge of Bank policy and sound commercial underwriting practices; Monitors maturing notes, past dues, and client activity to ensure performance is satisfactory; Develop a deposit relationship with credit clients and provide deposit referrals to the treasury team; Prepares and presents/recommends to a higher authority, individual, or committee any loans in excess of authority; Assumes responsibility for proper documentation and review of accounts; Monitors loans to ensure complete conformity with terms and to ascertain any developing trends; Aggressively calls on potential and existing clients to maintain productivity and profitability in lending and non-lending relationships; Keeps abreast of changing business and economic developments which impact the loan portfolio, its profitability, and banking in general; Prepares various reports as requested; Services delinquent accounts as required; Represents Bank through community & professional involvement in groups & associations to develop contacts for potential business; Professional Development and Special Projects Complete education, as identified or as assigned, that provides expertise in loan underwriting, credit analysis, portfolio management, and overall professional development. Serve, when requested, on special teams and projects across the organization. Collaborate with retail banking centers to provide consultation, leadership, training and technical assistance to small business community within the region that leads to a greater overall regional knowledge around the importance of CRA and the direct impact this has on & for the Bank. EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field, or equivalent work experience Minimum 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, small business lending, loan portfolio management, credit analysis, and/or similar field, depending upon demonstrated abilities. Advanced knowledge of credit administration, policy, and procedures. Advanced knowledge of economics, accounting, and finance. Advanced knowledge of risk analysis and mitigation. Excellent communication, data analysis, and presentation skills.
