Position Overview : The Security Director is the member of the senior leadership team responsible for security and fire safety across the entire organization as well as for oversight, quality assurance, compliance, and leadership related to the provision of security services in BronxWorks shelters for homeless families, safe havens, drop-in centers, stabilization bed sites, and any other locations at which security services are needed. The Security Director possesses significant relevant experience and expertise and is responsible for evaluating security needs, overseeing continuous quality and process improvement in security policies, procedures, and equipment, and ensuring all security and fire safety personnel across the organization are properly qualified, trained, and supervised. The Security Director supervises an administrative assistant and the director of the BronxWorks Security Guard Training School and indirectly supervises all BronxWorks security personnel. The Security Director also supervises any security subcontractors. ESSE NTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Organization-wide responsibilities Maintain expertise on best practices for mitigating security and fire safety risks for all BronxWorks programs and worksites. Provide sound guidance to executive and senior leadership on security, fire safety, and related issues. Develop, communicate, and enforce appropriate policies and procedures to promote security and fire safety and mitigate risk. Provide crisis intervention and respond to serious incidents 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Oversee periodic security and fire safety inspections of BronxWorks worksites. Evaluate needs and make recommendations; develop and oversee implementation of risk mitigation plans to improve security and fire safety. Manage the collection, presentation, and reporting of security and safety data across the organization. Responsible for monitoring trends and for continuous quality improvement. Review all security-related incident reports and follow up as necessary. Lead incident-debrief meetings and participate as a co-chair of relevant incident review committee(s). Responsible for compliance with FDNY fire safety regulations at BronxWorks worksites. Ensure fire panels work properly (where applicable) and that designated fire safety staff have adequate training and relevant certificates to operate. Ensure comprehensive fire prevention and related safety measures are deployed. Indirectly supervise security personnel assigned to BronxWorks worksites that are not managed by a Security Coordinator, including at Cornerstone Community Centers located in New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments and the Carolyn McLaughlin Community Center. Strategically liaise with various community entities and actively participate in meetings of Precinct Community Councils, community boards, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), and any other organized community group meetings. Provide investigative assistance to the General Counsel and Human Resources as requested. Other duties as assigned. Security services oversight and leadership Oversee continuous quality and process improvement in policies, procedures, and equipment for the organization's security operations. Enforce compliance with facility, BronxWorks, Department of Homeless Services (DHS), and other legal and regulatory policies and procedures. Directly supervise the Administrative Assistant for the Security Department and the Director of the BronxWorks Security Guard Training School. Indirectly supervise the Security Coordinators who manage security at BronxWorks shelters for homeless families, safe havens, drop-in centers, and other facilities. Regularly meet with Security Coordinators and communicate and enforce organizational and security department policies and procedures and best practices. Train and coach Security Coordinators to support them to fulfill their job responsibilities and collaborate with program management to manage Security Coordinator performance. Responsible for meeting required security staffing levels at all BronxWorks locations where security personnel are needed. This includes supervising Security Coordinator efforts to recruit, hire, and onboard qualified security personnel and ensuring effective administrative support for security recruiting and onboarding efforts. It also includes effectively collaborating with program management to recruit, hire, and onboard qualified Security Coordinators as needed. In shelters or centers where outsourced security services may be needed to meet required staffing levels, the Security Director is responsible for identifying, engaging, and supervising one or more appropriate security subcontractors and effectively managing the vendor relationship(s) to meet organizational needs. Responsible for ensuring all security personnel possess the training, licensure, and credentials to execute on their job responsibilities legally and effectively. Coordinate training as needed. In collaboration with the HR and Training Departments, establish and monitor tracking of employee training and credentialing and promptly address any issues of noncompliance. Model use of de-escalation strategies and positive interactions with all clients and promote use of same strategies with all security personnel. Regularly meet with program management and effectively liaise to ensure security operations are aligned with programmatic objectives as well as organizational values. Monitor, train, and supervise to ensure timely and accurate incident reporting into CARES per DHS priority outline and BronxWorks standards. Responsible for CCTV systems at facilities where security personnel operate. Ensure all CCTV systems are always operational and appropriately manage access to CCTV systems. Enforce compliance with DHS and BronxWorks policies in security personnel response to law enforcement inquiries and subpoenas. Train and supervise security personnel to ensure security records, reports and logs are maintained in a uniform, consistent manner and appropriately reviewed at all sites. Collaborate with HR, program management, and Security Coordinators in security staff disciplinary matters. Monitor security personnel schedules and timecards and supervise Security Coordinators to ensure schedules are posted on a timely basis and are completed in a consistent manner across the organization. Oversee scheduling to limit unnecessary overtime pay and remain within security budgets. Other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates in a residential facility for single adults and/or families with onsite social service and office environments. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Facilities operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, usually with 8-hour shifts. Employees may be assigned to more than one facility if necessary. REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS : Education and Experience Required: At least fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement or in a related field Former law enforcement officers with supervisory experience preferred. Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred. Five years supervisory experience. Experience managing databases, schedulers, online training platforms, and CCTV systems preferred. Certifications & Licenses Required: NYS Security Guard Must obtain and maintain the required Fire Safety Certificates within three (3) months of hire. CPR/ First Aid and Narcan Certification required within three (3) months of date of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Strong oral and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and effective professional relationships. Ability to lead and manage others and to manage 24-hour work schedules. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology Understanding of and commitment to organization's mission, vision, and values. Ability and willingness to perform all duties as workload necessitates. Ability to drag at least 80 pounds • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time. Ability to travel throughout New York City via public transportation. Possess a valid driver's license from the state in which the bearer resides; ability to become a BronxWorks approved driver. Salary, Benefits and Hours: The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $130,000 per year, with potential flexibility based on several factors, including level of experience.
