Summary/objective The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) serves as a pivotal support role to the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing nursing and clinical services within the licensed scope of practice for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) in California. The ADON ensures high-quality patient care and operational efficiency while adhering to state regulations and standards. This position requires a dedicated LVN with strong leadership skills and a commitment to clinical excellence, ready to contribute to the nursing department's success and the overall mission of the healthcare facility. Salary Range: $39.00 - $46.80 Essential Functions • Assist the DON in managing daily nursing operations, ensuring safe and effective patient care across clinical areas, including Medical-Surgical, Emergency, and other clinical care areas as assigned. • Collaborate with nursing staff and hospital leadership to enhance quality initiatives, staff development, and patient satisfaction. • Support 24-hour accountability for patient care activities, addressing clinical needs and operational challenges within the LVN scope of practice. • Utilize critical thinking and evidence-based practices in supervising nursing staff, ensuring adherence to California Board of Vocational Nursing regulations and competency standards. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state regulations, including the California Nurse Practice Act and accreditation standards, ensuring compliance in nursing operations. • Participate in departmental initiatives focused on patient safety, regulatory readiness, and quality assurance, including involvement in survey preparations. • Assist in managing nursing department budgets, contributing to financial decision-making aligned with organizational goals and priorities. • Collaborate with the DON and clinical department leaders on initiatives related to infection control and clinical education, supporting a culture of continuous improvement. • Help develop and implement patient care standards that align with organizational goals, including quality metrics and patient experience initiatives. • Oversee nursing staffing, scheduling, and competency assessments within the LVN scope, ensuring adequate coverage and adherence to hospital policies. • Foster staff development through recruitment, training, and performance evaluation, promoting teamwork and professional growth among nursing personnel. • Maintain effective communication across departments to support shared goals and enhance performance improvement efforts. Supervisory Responsibilities • Assist in the oversight of all nursing departments, including Infection Prevention and Control, while supporting nurse managers in these areas. • Directly supervise nursing staff within the scope of practice for LVNs and oversee the performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for other LVNs, Emergency Department technicians (ED Techs), Pharmacy technicians, Respiratory therapists (RT), Certified Medical Assistants (CMA), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), ensuring high standards of care and compliance with regulatory standards. • Support the supervision of the Emergency Department in the absence of its department manager/ regional nurse manager. Travel required • None Required Education and Experience • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) License: Completed an accredited LVN program, holds an active LVN license in California with IV certification, and is in good standing. • Clinical Nursing Experience: A minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience as an LVN is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Acute Care settings. • Must possess a current Director of Staff Development (DSD) Certification or be able to obtain DSD certification within 1 year of hire. • Supervisory/Management Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory experience is required, including oversight of CNAs, CMAs, or other LVNs. Candidates should have experience managing staff schedules, training new employees, and overseeing day-to-day operations. • Regulatory Knowledge: Must possess knowledge of state and federal regulations, such as Title 22 in California. Preferred Education and Experience • Certification or coursework in leadership, management, or supervision. • Specialty Certifications: Geriatrics, Wound care, or Infection Prevention and Control.
