Job Description Your Impact The Hearst Consumer Commerce team is looking for an experienced Director of Category Management to lead assortment and merchandising for our e-commerce Marketplace in support of Hearst Magazines. As the Director of Category Management, you will be responsible for building an assortment strategy and a go-to-market plan across multiple e-commerce category launches. You will define our assortment strategy, milestones and success criteria to launch a 0-to-1 e-commerce marketplace. You will partner closely with the Business Development team to facilitate outreach to external selling partners to onboard to the marketplace, ensuring we hit our annual goals, and with the Business Operations team to onboard the Sellers to our platform. After Sellers launch on the marketplace, you will manage the Seller relationship and business across selection, promotions, negotiations, customer experience, and reporting, and you will partner with Sellers to understand their needs, technologies, and e-commerce opportunities. You will own the P&L and deep dive core inputs to deliver topline and bottom-line growth. The ideal candidate is a customer-obsessed and curious owner who embraces data-driven decision making. Our team will be focused on e-commerce experiences that support a wide spectrum of customer types - as such, you should be someone excited about exploring the varying engagement and shopping behaviors across regions, industries, and customer segments. You should have excellent communication skills that span from visual documentation to verbal presentation of complex ideas in easy-to-understand ways. With our many partners across multiple Hearst organizations, you should also have comfort in collaborating and presenting concepts from junior to executive stakeholders. You will also have strong e-commerce experience, as well as a track record of collaborating effectively with both technical and creative teams to build best-in-class customer experiences. Your responsibilities Determine key assortment for each marketplace, identify new potential selling partners, and build and maintain relationships with Sellers to ensure a diverse selection of products is available for customers. Own the assortment planning process, ensuring product mix meets customer needs and revenue and margin targets. Set and negotiate terms and performance expectations with selling partners, ensuring a best-in-class experience for our customers. Partner with the Business Development team on Seller outreach and the Business Operations team on Seller onboarding, identifying ways to simplify and streamline processes across teams. Manage P&L and develop plans that drive revenue and margin improvements for the business. Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to inform category strategies and identify new growth opportunities. Partner with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, and editorial, to drive category performance. About You No two projects are alike, nor are two candidates. Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field; MBA preferred. 6+ years of experience in e-commerce category management. Strong analytical and data-driven mindset with experience using analytics tools such as Google Analytics. Proven success in building and growing categories that drive revenue and profitability. Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
