Title: HVAC Technician State Role Title: 79033 Hiring Range: $48,040 - $66,295; Salary Commensurate with Experience Pay Band: 3 Agency: Dept Behavioral Health/Develop Location: Central State Hospital Agency Website: Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277 bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. CSH has proudly been serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870, when we opened our doors as the first psychiatric hospital in the country dedicated to the treatment of African Americans. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction on the same property, with a scheduled completion date of 2027. CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111 beds). We also have 166 beds available for individuals in the community who need inpatient care, as well as individuals in the criminal justice system. We believe that treatment should be holistic and focused on the person's individual needs, recognizing that recovery is not linear or the same for every person. Treatment modalities may include medication, evidence-based group and individual therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, preparation for court, and treatment for substance use. Central State Hospital is currently recruiting full-time HVAC Technicians to ensure journeyman level HVAC work is performed with responsibility for determining the appropriate work methods. The HVAC Technician will perform assignments independently, therefore, responsible for planning the assigned work, following sketches, writing diagrams and blueprints. The successful incumbent will possess a full range and skills in the repair of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. They will have the knowledge of HVAC codes, and general maintenance and repair procedures. The successful incumbent will have the ability to perform small repairs in the areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting. As an HVAC Trades Technician III, you are on a rotating On Call/Call Back schedule. As a mission critical employee, there is an expectation that you respond to any and all emergency calls as stated in CSH PPS Policy Letter #2. Job Duties: - Responsible for performing skilled maintenance, installation, and repairs of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and related control systems. - Responsible for performing maintenance and repair duties required of Zone Mechanics which involves aspects of carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing to keep assigned zone in working order. - Able to assess potential problems, hazards and opportunities to maintain assigned Zone assets to prevent unplanned impairments. - Enters time, progress, materials, tasks and completion data for work performed on assigned work orders in the automated work order system. - Updates system as work is completed for current shift - Trouble shooting, corrective, and preventive maintenance on small package units, window air conditioners, ice makers, domestic refrigerators, water coolers, air dryers, hot water and steam converts, boiler and fossil fuel furnaces. - Weather Related Duties to consist of but not limited to Snow and Ice removal from sidewalks / roadways. Emergency Call Back after normal business hours/schedule, holidays and weekend. - Mandatory and other training as required to maintain certifications. - Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor Minimum Qualifications - Demonstrate the ability to interpret wiring diagrams and blueprints with the ability to install or repair HVAC equipment - CFC Certification, multiple or universal - Valid Virginia Driving License - Ability to operate service vehicles Additional Considerations - Working within a hospital setting as an HVAC Technician Special Instructions You will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and/or résumé is submitted successfully.
