The Staff Tax Accountant is responsible for maintaining tax compliance and conducting internal audits to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This role involves the gathering of information for the preparation of tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, and performing audits to mitigate risk and improve financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge in tax and audit practices, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive problem-solving approach. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist tax consultant with the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Manage indirect taxes, including sales, use, property, and excise taxes, ensuring timely and accurate filings. Liaise with external tax advisors to assist in tax preparation, planning and strategy. Conduct internal audits to assess the accuracy and integrity of financial data and controls. Provide necessary information and support during external audits. Support the finance team in reviewing tax implications of business decisions. Evaluate and assess validity of tax refunds, delinquent tax notices, and other correspondence. Stay informed of changes in tax laws, regulations, and auditing practices. Assist in preparing financial reports and presentations for senior management. Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets. Investigate discrepancies and recommend improvements to mitigate financial risks. Ad Hoc projects and reporting as needed Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or equivalent preferred. Minimum of 3+ years of experience in tax preparation, auditing, or financial compliance. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations. Experience with internal and external auditing practices and internal controls. Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g., SAP, Oracle). Expert in advanced Excel functions, with strong proficiency in data analytics tools such as Power BI, and other relevant platforms. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
