Job Summary Under the directive of the Manager/Director, the Supervisor plans, organizes, schedules, and directs the department in order to effectively utilize employees and equipment to meet established turnaround time and material utilization within budgetary constraints while adhering to quality technical standards. The Supervisor provides direct on-site analysis of the day to day operation including adjustment of specimen workflow, test performance, quality, compliance, and associated documentation to adhere to the applicable regulatory agencies, company policies and procedures. Additional tasks can be assigned at the discretion of the Manager/Director Essential Functions Procures appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and stays within established budgetary and quality goals including accurate monthly inventory. Provides technical oversight of area(s) of responsibility. Serves as a technical resource for problem solving and process improvement to ensure accurate test performance and meets all quality goals. Investigates and documents non-conforming events as necessary. Devotes time to evaluate workflow and specimen testing to maintain adequate turnaround time and improve shift/employee productivity Troubleshoots and recommends process improvements, as needed. Uses effective two-way communication by leading/participating in meetings, as well as communicating with employees. Supports, implements, and ensures compliance with all department and company policies and procedures. Oversees the training and competency of staff. Monitors and ensures implementation of goals to meet established quality assurance, quality control quality improvement plans and turnaround time. Ensures compliance with regulatory agency requirements through maintaining proper documentation, conducting audits, and corrective actions. Interacts with internal and external customers to ensure proper sample handling, reporting and resolution of questions and concerns. Participates in the updating of departmental standard operating procedures to accurately reflect the current practices. Performs other tasks as specified by the manager/director. Reviews Quality Control data as needed and at least monthly or as required. Follows the audit calendar to ensure all as needed quality tasks are completed. Reviews timecards weekly for employee attendance and overtime. Spends an appropriate amount of time with each member of their staff, regardless of shift. Delegation to the backup supervisor to ensure proper coverage of all required tasks in his/her absence. Maintains and updates Safety Data Sheets. Maintains and updates all Standard Operating Procedures and Forms. Review of test results prior to release when applicable. Responsible for validating and implementing new methods and technologies. Must have proven leadership, interpersonal, communication, computer and technical skills in the specialty area being supervised. Adheres to all Infection Control, Environment of Care and Safety procedures including but not limited to appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Minimum Education/Certifications Bachelor of Science in medical technology, biology, chemistry or related science. Licensure: State, NCA or ASCP preferred. Minimum Work Experience 1-2 years generalist experience; supervisory or lead tech experience preferred Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
