Title: Specialist, Legal Affairs Unit/Department: Executive and Administration/Legal Affairs FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt Location: This position is located onsite at the APTA headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Summary Reporting to the Director, Legal Affairs/General Counsel, this position will be the lead support in the Legal Affairs Department for the Association. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in legal principles, procedures and terminology. Implements strategies to support organizational priorities with focus on departmental contributions for Association. Prepares for approval compliance requirements and documents and seeks out opportunities for continuous quality improvement in department activities. Is an effective champion of the Association vision, mission and brand. Essential Functions Serve as a liaison to staff for general contracts information, ensuring smooth communication with employees and timely resolution to their queries Serve as lead admin for APTA's legal software Provide guidance and training on APTA's legal software to staff, as needed Set up and maintain legal calendar for contracts - advising on renewals, updating, etc. Maintain agenda for legal team meetings Maintain working knowledge of Association's policy and procedures Staff Expectations Upholds and fosters team values Complies with all APTA policies and procedures Performs other duties as assigned to foster the achievement of association priorities Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred 3+ years' experience in a legal support role, preferably in a nonprofit association Paralegal certificate, a plus Strong knowledge of legal principles, concepts, and legal research methodology relevant to document production in a legal context, or equivalent experience Must have contracts experience Working knowledge of legal software platforms, Cobblestone a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suites Project management skills a plus Excellent communication and time management skills Ability to foster positive and collaborative relationships with staff Notary Public for State of Virginia a plus Travel Requirements None How To Apply Please send resume and cover letter, including salary requirements, when applying.
