This position is a comprehensive 12-week learning experience in Performance Coatings Group R&D. The Summer Intern is accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple-company problems of moderate complexity. Primary responsibilities include leading & supporting new product development projects across a wide range of market segments. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with the P&M technical team to support projects in the areas of color development, quality support for current product lines, continuous improvement initiatives, technology transfers, and raw material support. All hires must go through a background check before the start of employment . Prepares industrial coating formulations under supervision. Conducts coating application, testing, data collection and analysis. Regular update on the project progress with team members. Interacts with members from other functional teams. Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of lab work and providing written updates and presentation of technical materials. Function under limited supervision and be able to design experiments with support and write reports with limited review. Communicate detailed ideas concisely through written communication by writing technical reports. Comply with and displays knowledge of all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area. Additional duties as assigned. Adheres to quality standards in accordance with the Global Business Management System. Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics ("STEM") at the time of the internship program Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future Must be willing to work up to 40 hours per week for a total of 12 week, with or without reasonable accommodation Minimum of 2.8 GPA Proficient with Microsoft office suite Preferred Qualifications Majoring in Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry or related field Advanced knowledge in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry Previous industrial lab experience with chemicals or coatings Knowledge and experience with analytical techniques and materials science testing Laboratory experience with both general chemistry and organic chemistry Familiar with statistical tools and/or design of experiments Previous industrial lab experience with chemicals or coatings Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised.
