Job Description *This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent city employees serving in the Assistant Mechanical Engineer civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) candidates who are reachable on the Assistant Mechanical Engineer civil service list (Exam No. 3109). Our diverse set of assets includes recreational facilities, nature centers, historic buildings and structures, golf courses, athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, public pools, public restroom buildings, retaining walls and nearly 14 miles of beaches. The Capital Division at NYC Parks is responsible for managing the design, construction, and administration of capital projects to expand, improve and revitalize these public spaces. Within the division, a Capital Needs Assessment Team has been established to thoroughly understand the physical condition of these assets, to allocate resources and plan capital projects accordingly. Major Responsibilities - Under supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer, perform condition assessments of mechanical engineering systems, including plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems, according to Agency guidelines, inspection protocols and state and local regulations. - Conduct field inspections to identify defects at the system and component level, recommend interventions to improve overall asset condition and meet benchmark performance requirements. - Prepare detailed reports to support condition assessment findings. Collect and capture additional asset information to build and improve upon the accuracy of Parks asset inventories. - Maintain inspection data using NYC Parks asset management software systems. Analyze the data to identify trends and monitor effectiveness of NYC Parks proactive maintenance of assets. - Collaborate with other Parks technical staff, including professional cost estimators, to accurately document observed conditions and propose recommended actions for mechanical systems.
