General Summary of Position Please note, this position requires travel between 3 sites (mostly Olney and Hyattsville but PRN at Good Sam). The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing medical management to research subjects enrolled in designated studies. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will participate in several research studies, as the medical liaison and sb or co-investigator/coordinator as appropriate. The NP is responsible for assessment, screening, diagnosis, evaluation, and monitoring the general management plan, and follow up assessment and intervention for clinical research participants and/or patients. This position, under the general Scientific Director or designee will function independently and in collaboration with MCCRC Physicians and Principal Investigators. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Consistently demonstrates support for compliance in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with, rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; b) maintaining knowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MedStar Health Research Institute policies and procedures; and c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriate and timely manner. Administer and review consent forms and medical release forms with study subjects/participants. Assume responsibility as sub-investigator for current and potential research studies and activities. Communicate with sponsors on appropriate medical and/or study conduct issues. Conduct studies according to the study protocol, FDA regulations and guidelines and Good Clinical Practice. Develop and maintain professional relationships with clinical research organizations (monitors) study sponsors, referring physicians and MRI's Offices of Contracts and Grants Management and Office of Research Administration. Develop recruitment strategies and screen study participants and to manage the health information on potential/actual study participants in a manner that is consistent with MRI's protection of human subjects. Ensure the safety and welfare of study subjects to include symptom review and management, appropriate referral and follow-up and ongoing contact with subjects and primary care providers regarding current health status and response to study interventions. Maintain documentation and clinical notes on study participants; maintain security of study data and confidentiality of participants information. Maintain professional accreditation and licensure for the District of Columbia and Maryland. Participate in central and/or annual training for Nurse Practitioners. Participate in health fairs and/or other activities designed to enhance recruitment and retention of study participants and to promote CRC programs. Perform all study measurements and procedures as indicated by protocols, including phlebotomy history, and physical exam. Review and document study subjects' screening and follow-up study results to include laboratory values and other procedures as indicated by protocol. Share rotation of the Emergency Pager with Staff Physicians. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Minimum Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. required Experience Experience in diabetes field, clinical trials, research and data collection preferred 1-2 years Clinical care experience in adult medicine, internal medicine or family practice required and Licenses and Certifications NP - Nurse Practitioner - Licensed Current and valid license (or eligible for such licensure) as a RN and NP in the District of Columbia and Maryland. required and Current certification as NP. required and Current certification in BCLS. required and CDE - Certified Diabetes Educator Certification Certified Diabetes Educator or CDE eligible preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Recognized clinical competency with sensitivity to the psychological, social and medical needs of patients. This position has a hiring range of $100,588 - $180,419
