Transylvania University ( a top-tier, independent, residential liberal arts college of 1,000 students in Lexington, Kentucky, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life. This is an 12-month, full-time position. The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for the development and management of the overall student development and staff functions of the Department of Housing and Residence Life, including training, supervision, programming support, mentoring and leadership of the Housing and Residence Life student staff. The Assistant Director is deemed essential staff and may be required to report to work when the University is closed for emergencies and inclement weather. This is a required live-on position. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties: Training Duties: Designs and implements a staff training and development program for 15-18 Resident Assistants and 3 Area Coordinators. Maintains Resident Assistant Training and Expense budget accounts, purchase orders and documentation. Updates and revises departmental manuals, records, job descriptions and policies. Marketing & Communication Duties: Oversee all social media and marketing materials for HRL. Approve all communication from HRL student staff including posters, social media posts etc. Programming Duties: Oversees all Housing & Residence Life programming efforts, including setting guidelines for programming expectations and assisting staff with programming needs. Provide leadership and direction to large scale campus and community programming events initiated through HRL. Supervisory Duties: Supervises and evaluates Area Coordinators, who in turn supervise and evaluate Resident Assistants. Coordinates the selection of Resident Assistant and Area Coordinators. Monitors physical appearance of residence halls, reporting necessary work orders to Maintenance, Housekeeping and Public Safety. Assesses and reviews departmental programs and services. Student Support and Follow-up Duties: Make an effort to engage with and get to know residents and maintain a level of visibility and approachability within the residence halls. Work collaboratively with Student Wellbeing to assist in the implementation of the University's CARE and student follow-up processes. Adjudicate student behavioral conduct meetings in connection with the Code of Student Conduct. Emergency Response and Campus Presence Duties: Participate in Student Life on-call responsibilities for nights and weekends. Maintains availability and accessibility to residents by advising students and/or student groups as well as making appropriate referrals Participates in Student Life committees. Interprets, implements and enforces University policies and procedures regarding disciplinary issues and other issues. And Problem solves with student staff regarding concerns of roommate conflicts, developmental issues, floor mischief, relationships, vandalism, student organization development and discipline and other behavioral concerns in the residence halls. Secondary Duties: Assumes responsibilities of the Director of Housing and Residence Life in their absence. Represents the Department and University at recruitment and public events. Participates on multiple committees. Serves as the liaison with Facilities Management, Student Wellbeing, Athletics, Department of Public Safety, and others as appropriate. Assist with Summer Conferences. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Masters degree in College Personnel, Higher Education or related area. Two years related experience required. Prior experience working in a highly residential campus environment is strongly preferred.
